Filipe, an Irish man in Tijuana
-
ciaranParticipant
This is Filipe, a first generation Mexican gentleman with an Irish father called Sean. I met him on a recent trip to Tijuana and spent 15 mins talking with him as he proudly boasted of his Irish heritage and 14 children  A true gentleman.
Comments welcome as always.

I love the composition of this shot and the detail in the skin
I know you tend to shoot wide open, I assume thats what you did here
Pity the far eye is softer though
ExpresbroParticipantFantastic detail Ciaran, and a captivating expression. He has a real Henry Fonda smile. Bet he had some really interesting stories to tell.
MadthingParticipantRobMemberSuperb character shot Ciaran. The extreme dof works exceptionally
well here and that near eye just grabs you. Hope you took advantage of
your trip to Tijuana and shot plenty more for us to see. Mexico is an amazing
country full of amazing people with a temperament not unlike the Irish. If you’re
going to be spending a bit more time there (and supposing you can spare a bit
of it) might I recommend taking the train trip from Mexico City to
Guadalajara. You’ll not see anything like it….Great shot. Love it…
Rob.
bethParticipantlove the detail and personality you captured in this. beautiful work.

Not sure about cropping at the chin though!
Ah sure rules are meant to be broken.

MarkKeymasterAgree with everyone on this.
Only thing is that this guy could be anywhere in the world, ie I don’t know from looking that this guy in a Mexican.
There isn’t any context. Maybe there shouldn’t be or doesn’t have to be as its a portrait, but seeing as you’re in Mexico
it seems like a shame not to…?Just a thought. :)

Yeah, I tend to agree. I think more often than not my narratives tend to get me into more trouble than they’re worth. For this shot, I wasn’t trying to capture his “Mexican’ess”.. it was just a shot of an old guy.
I tend to either shoot old men or naked women.. I need to find a different middle ground, and I don’t mean naked old women ;) As for shooting more Mexican type scenes, I did manage to get more “typical” shots from that day, which I’m sure I’ll post over time.
Thanks for the comments.

Em, there’s always naked old men… ;)
