Film Processing Stuff, Advice Needed.

Hey all, was wondering what chemicals you all use for processing film? I want to start processing my own but am not sure what chemicals to buy?
Any advice? Want to buy it in small quanitys if possible. Was looking at Kodak HC 110 or Agfa Rodinal developer but am not sure.
The films I use are Ilford Delta 100 & 3200, Ilford SFX 200, Fugi Neopan 1600 and Agfa APX 100.
Any advice welcome.
Cheers
Sinead.jessthespringerParticipantMartinParticipantI’m only new to developing my self. below is what i am using
Developer: Rodinal, Have used it for Neopan 400, Ilford SFX and Rollei IR Film. Will work for most B+W films.
Fixer: Ilford Rapid fixer
Kodak PHOTOFLO to help drying the negs and gives them a nice finishThe above you can get in small enough qualities check out http://www.silverprint.co.uk/ to get an idea of prices etc
You could ask http://www.silverprint.co.uk/ how much shipping would cost also. I’m sure there is a camera shop that sells fixers and developers in Belfast, if you have transport you could call up

Sinead.Hi Sinead,
For film you need a developer and fixer. Water will do fine as stop bath and as Martin suggested, fotoflo is great for drying your negs quickly. Rodinal is a great developer but you may not like it in fast films as it is an acutance developer and will enhance the grain which you may or may not like. Ilford’s DDX or Kodak’s Tmax developers are good all-rounders and might be better options to start with.
Suppliers in mainland UK might not send chemicals but there should be some shops in Belfast. I get most of my supplies from Gunns in Dublin.
Have fun,
PeterFintanParticipantHey Sinead,
http://www.calumetphoto.co.uk/ are in Dargan Cresent in the industrial estate near the docklands in Belfast and they should be able to get you any developer you need.
FintanjessthespringerParticipantCheers lads for advice.. as always everyone here is very helpful! Trying to get the stuff from Jessops at the moment, handy cause there are no delivery chargers (and I have part time job there!). Kodak looks the way to go I think. Silverprint charge ?17.50 for delivery!
Cheers again.
Martin, was on the silverprint site y’day, big notice on it about Kodak HIE IR film being discontinued.
EddieParticipantHere is some advice on washing and drying I gave on a similar subject which may be useful when you get processing.
Here is a useful tip for washing negatives so you wont get drying marks or dirty negs. After normal washing ,get a bottle of de-ionised water (car shop suppliers, its used for car batteries). Put 4ml of wetting agent and a litre of the water into a spray bottle, the one they use for spraying plants. Hang the washed negatives in the drying area, bathroom, ensuite, or somewhere dust free after they are washed. Finally spray them at close range both sides with the de-ionised water and wetting agent. Hold your hand behind the negatives to control the spray preventing it from going on walls. The bottle of water will last for ages and guarentee you clean streak free negatives.
Leave the room slowly so as not to create dust and dont be tempted to look and handle the negatives. Return only when they are dry and ready to be filed in negative sleeves.

Hi guys I’ve been using Ilford ID-11 for years, but I’ve decided to go for a change of developer, I use mostly FP4, or HP5 ilford film both 35mm & 120mm film. i also have a couple of rolls of Pan F 50, SFX 200 & Delta 3200 (35mm) so I’d like a developer that would work well with these as well.
Thanks

FP4,Pan F 50: Im using Rodinal at 1+50
SFX 200, Delta 3200, HP5: I’m using Rollei RHS 1+7Theres lots of different developers, the above are the ones im using and am happy with, still experimenting myself, im sure some of the other on here will have other suggestions. Google is great for researching film and developer combinations as well as http://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.html For me I am using Rodinal for slower films and Rollei RHS for faster films

jessthespringerParticipantI’m using Kodak HC110 solution B 1+31. Will work for all of those I think. I have used it for FP4, HP5, Delta 100, 400 and 3200, Kodak Tri-x 400, Fuji Neopan 1600 and Agfa APX 100.
I really wanted to get some Rodinal but couldn’t get it up here (cost £17.50 to ship 1l of it from England)!!
Ilford DDX is pretty good too I hear.thefizzParticipantYes DDX is a good all round developer as is Rodinal Special.
Ordinary Rodinal will emphasize the grain of the film but with 120 film this won’t be so apparent. I use it for almost all my 120 films, its my favorite developer.
jb7ParticipantXtol-
though I’ve only used it a few times,
and I’m waiting on a new batch of film to test it properly-Seems good so far-
speed increasing, fine grained, doesn’t seem to lose too much acutance-
Kodak claim 10% bigger enlargements for the same grain size-Very susceptible to oxidation in the bottle- and seems not to be good in hard water-
Louise in Gunne’s won’t use it again after a bad experience-j
FintanParticipantI used Xtol with Tri-X for years but got fed up of trying to get it to dissolve and mixing more than I needed. As the OP said small quantities I’d give Xtol a miss.
I think the high price for shipping the Rodinol is due to a courier being used instead of regular postage who dont like liquid chemicals  This is one really good reason to shop local in your best camera shop so they can keep your favourite chems in stock. Its nearly always in stock in Gunns Camera shop in Wexford Street Dublin, why not take the train down some saturday, shoot a few rolls, see a few exhibitions and stock up in Gunns
jessthespringerParticipantMaybe, a train ride to Dublin on a sat sounds so cool… I work most sats though :( Plus I have a heap of HC110 to use up!!
Hope Gunn’s are givin you a bit of discount for biggin them up!!
