Beautiful, I would love to be able to take portraits like that, as has been
said the softness of it is very nicely done, just one little niggle is the lower
part of the top/dress she is wearing, looks a little strange is it her arm up
a sleeve? or just the design of the dress/top? Because it is oof I think a
slight cropping off the bottom of the frame would be better, just my opinion
though.johnnycorcoranParticipantvividimagesMemberpelagicMemberVery Intriguing photo. I like it. (as if that matters :) )
My eyes kept jumping between her face and the out of focus space behind her ear. Not sure why.
Then i discovered she was clutching herself with the shirt she had pulled over her head.
Somehow the effect draws me in. If I displace the fact that I know this portrait was staged, it makes me want to know what that big blue eye is looking at. Why is she half dressed? Who is in the room/ Where is she? We are looking at her from inside her mirror?
I agree that the DOF leaves her arms out of focus, but somehow that’s OK. Her ear is also oof. Without that part of the photo, I wouldn’t have seen what you shot, nor could my imagination explored what she going on.
I don’t understand the change in color under her nose. It doesn’t seem the lighting could have done that. So I asked myself, self, is she looking at her makeup and sees that she did it wrong? Or is there post-processing on her face and that part was missed?
i-mediaParticipantExcellent shot and may I say a beautiful model. Can help but get drawn to the triangle shaped skin tone above her lip…. but excellent all the same

You mean her parafiltrum? There is no “pixel” pushing done in this shot. The colouring is applied globally with one colour added to the shadow detail and another to the highlights. So what ever shift you guys are seeing under her nose is down to natural shadows and this tone mapping.
I appreciate the feedback
jodal1975Participantreally great photo….and a beautiful model i might add , i think the camera really likes her!
i dont have any of the issues so far voiced , i do have one small gripe however…. i just want to take her sweatshirt and clean the cuff :-)
im just beginning to try a few portraits and would love to reach this level some day.
one question , could you explain to me the process of adding a colour to shadows / highlights in ps to get you effect…..if its not too long and complicated ofcourse!
