Fireball Over Ireland

Hi,
I thought of posting an image and not just comment on others work. I was lucky enough to have the shutter open on last Friday evening when a big meteorite (or space junk) crossed the Irish sky. Appreciate your thoughts and thanks for looking.

Irish Weather Online would definitely be interested in showing this picture on their facebook page, you might want to look them up, could get some free publicity out of it! :)
SeaviewParticipantExcellent shot Dan, I’ve tried astrophotography but I failed miserably. Would you be willing to share your knowledge sometime.
Dave.

Hi Dave, I’ll be happy to. I’m not going to cover the camera equipment.
Most important is to be in group of minimum 2, to kill boredom. The image above is a stack of 5 images, 15 minutes exposure. Imagine sitting 1h and 1/2 in the cemetry…alone. Not much to do, wi-fi and phone coverage can’t help you kill time because there’s none of them. Weather is another factor. I use accuweather dot com. We were happy to have clear sky in the north where we were pointing the cameras. But above us and in the southern part of the sky was cloudy, for some reason they dissappeared. After 5 images, condensation appeared on the cameras. That’s a show stopper, even though we had a fleece collar wrapped on the lenses. It worked for most of the time.
And, generally, you need a bit of luck. I was happy checking each image after the 15 mins exposure. When the meteor appeared, we were stunned. I totally forgot the camera was on, with 2 minutes left for the shutter to close.
