First Commisioned Job

    Folks,

I need a little advice. An american college has picked up some shots I’ve taken and want to commission me to do a series of
shots for a study abroad marketing brochure.
Trouble is I have no idea how to charge them. Per shot, per use, per day.

I’m just looking for feedback or recommendations on how I should tackle this. The photography side of it I have convered, it;s the business side I’m struggling with.

    thanks in advance folks.

Congrats on the job op. Graham,

I wouldn’t have great experience in this field, but one of the members here – Ashley – has posted many times on how to and what to charge for this type of work. I’d say if you do a search either by username, or by commission, you will find the details.

He has posted very in-depth details and the posts should clear up any queries you might have.

As a commercial photographer, we simply produce & provide images for others to use.

    Hey Ashley,

thanks for the response, I of course think my work is pretty much priceless ;-) but pricing it other people is difficult.
The project is basically an advertisement brochure for a US based college that runs study abroad projects for other colleges across america.
I’ve done some work for the Irish office s of the college and they liked what I produced. mainly casual student shots used on the web.
now however they want new shots for printed brochures that will be distributed to colleges all over america.

The photography budget for the entire marketing project this year is 20,000 dollars which I’m guessing would include everything from me to printing
    and all in between.

To be honest I’m pretty happy to get the publicity and to start a working relationship. I don’t want to over charge them or even come close.
To be honest I really just want to quote a price that is not toooooo low.

Thanks again – I really appreciate the help on this one
