First Fine Day

    Hey thanks Ivar-
They’re a bit of an acquired taste-

NFL reckons this one might be a good one to illustrate some of the things we talked about here-
Again, not quite right, with the same dodgy focus, and solarization, and fogging too-

    Thanks for looking-

    These are pretty special, Joseph.
I love the look of them, they’re really rich in tones.
Aside from that there’s an abundance of built in nostalgia.
Not entirely sure where that comes from
Partly the quirky effects of the technical set up.
Partly the way we’re watching someone experiment.
Like watching someone on the edge of discovery.
Endless possibilities, but which one is the right one.
Don’t get that so much with DSLR.
    Very interesting set.

That last one has some very unusual focus effects Joseph. And it’s just dawned on me too that these were all done upsiide down too! One arm behind you back next time??

    Thanks Mick- thanks Alan-
The upside down thing isn’t really a problem-
as long as you can see it comfortably-
I’ve had a few small problems recently with having the camera too high-

Viewing upside down is just another abstraction-
I think you mentioned it yourself recently, Alan-

The one arm behind my back thing is just about right-
not on a showing off level, but as a metaphor for clumsiness-
you’d need to be crazy to photograph people on this-
unless they’re happy to take direction.

An understanding of the concept of limited depth of field helps too-
as well as a certain empathy for the cost per shot-

Muggers, messers and fidgets will find a session aborted without notice…

Cheers Mick, I know what you mean about the instant nostalgia-
I even got that when I was taking them-

The slightly odd tone can be explained by the filtration-
    mostly deep red and orange-

Without a diaphragm, and with a fixed shutter of 1/25th,
the only control over exposure is to put filters in front of the lens-

And of course, the slightly antique toning pushes it over the edge-

There will be fun had with this setup-
hopefully lots more pictures to be made with it-

    Thanks again-

    j
