this next one is about as close to alternative angles as i got. knelt on the floor in front of the model, about a foot and a half from her at 35mm aiming up.
The effect was done using the evaluation copy of Exposure 3. I stumbled across it earlier looking for tutorials on luminosity.

    1/30, f4.0, ISO3200 35mm

    Dave,

Do keep an eye on the For Sale section here on PI as I’ve seen Canon Flash’s come up for sale several times, especially when a newer model is released and people are selling to upgrade.

Oh and of course natural light can’t be beaten when it’s available :-)

Wondering if this is what you were thinking of the warmed up tones? Its the same picture, but with Exposure3 filter :)

The background is indeed a bit overwhelming; except for the last two pictures. The one with the hat and the one on the stool. In the former the face kind of appears out of the surrounding shapes and that is kind of nice.
The one on the stool is a nice mix of everything. The book-case, the wallpaper and of course the model. It is not a portrait that is easy on the eyes. A bit like jazz-music. You need a bit of effort to look at it and appreciate it. And I appreciate it. It is a good one, and I like the warmed-up version best!

One little thing though: Her left arm. It is at an awkward angle. That is a bit of a pity. Otherwise a very pleasurable portrait!

    Dave,

An inexpensive way to get bounce is to use a sync cord and hold the flash in your hand.

I invested in a brand new flash recently with an adjustable head and i got a set of reflectors to so next time i’ll have a far better set :)

thanks for all the feedback :)
