First post – first time for everything!!!

Well, I thought it was time for a first post. This was taken at Mountstewart at the weekend. For a Challenge on another forum, I was taking photos with a 50mm setting (used my Sigma 17-70/Canon 400d)
Not Pete the blokeParticipantWelcome Helen!
The exposure seems dead on, but the kids are the real subject, and all we can see is their backs, so I suspect that is why you haven’t had much feedback on this one. Might have been better to get the kids to turn and face the camera, but maybe you just wanted to catch them in natural setting feeding the birds. Let’s see plenty more from you……HelenMParticipantThanks for your comments. Kids weren’t mine so I reckoned it would be permissable – if I didn’t identify them. Can anyone clarify this for me? I find candid shots with random people awkward, and children are generally a no-no. As I passed this little jetty the scene appealed to me so I took a chance on it. Have I crossed the line here?
ExpresbroParticipantHelen,
I see no line crossed in this shot? It’s just a shot of some children playing on a jetty!! Hard to see how anybody could draw anything immoral from it..legally or otherwise.
I really think this whole paranoia about photographing children is going to far. I could understand it if they were maybe on a beach in swimwear or something, that someone would have objections. But in regular public settings like this it just baffles me how anybody could find it objectionable.
I fear if this kind of mentality is allowed to win out then the next thing will be the destruction of classic street shots because the parents of the children weren’t asked for permission….or it might offend someone’s sensibilities.
Now…after my little rant… the shot itself as I said is a nice candid shot of children at play…but it may have benefited from some kind if interaction from the children…some animation..as the shot appears quite static..although I like the idea that they are watching the birds.
Keep ’em coming Helen.
