First step into a new life

After attending the Digital Beginners Wedding practice day I have a tonne of processing to do.
This is just a quick snap I got and I don’t know why but I really like this one.

Not sure it would ever make it into a proper wedding album but it works for me.

Ooooh yes! Very deep and thought provoking. Album? Maybe not but it’s certainly a simple way of stimulating the thought process for those artistic among us. I really, really like this one. It’s so simple.

    Graham,
I totally love your idea here. Excellent title and very creative shot.

For me, it’s another one of those..where were you when I needed you type shots, much how I felt about Ali’s posted communion photos. I think people really are wanting not only the traditional shots, but something that sets their collection apart as well.

Some people would not be interested in this particular focus. I think it is great, and would have loved to have something similar. It would have been nice to have that option anyway.

Obviously, if you are photographing the bride, you’d be working with whatever she is wearing, but if you want to work on something similar on a model, I’d use a strappy sandal and I’d be sure the dress fell properly to improve the shot.

You are dead right Sharon, some people have asked me about doing weddings and there
does seem to be trend amongst some people that they don’t want the usual shots. they want something a little
different, which suits me down to the ground

I reckon this sot of thing is much more appealing than the 400 posed shots of Uncle Mick et al in front of the church. Lots of catching people when they’re not looking, etc.

    That’s what I thought too-
    Its a nice idea,
but it depends how critical the client is-

Most people will accept it and be thankful that you had the vision to see it-

If it works, fine, but the well observed points mentioned above kinda takes the gloss off it-

    I know its a wedding,
    and not fashion,
but you know how bitchy the Bride’s mates are gonna be-

(to say nothing of other photographers)

Nice and novel ( to my knowledge) idea. But then I wouldn’t expect anything different from you Graham :D

The one niggle that I would have is the blown highlights on the dress. But then assuming this was a quick shot and not set up then probably not a lot you could do about it.

How did you find the course anyway..? Do you think it’s prepared you for upcoming engagements?

Thanks Robbie – I would hate to disappoint by being normal.

The wedding course was excellent actually.
It was a real eye opener to the challenges facing a wedding photographer.
The lighting in the church was terrible ( as it will be in many churches ) and not
being able to use flash all the time really tests you.

Then having the white dress outside in harsh sunlight was a nightmare to get right.

It was great to have two willing models who walked the aisle about ten times.
That was a huge advantage and really showed, me anyway, where I need to be positioned when
i do my first wedding in august.

J – one of the things I wanted to get from the day was not only to practice the “typical” shots but also try to find shots that
showed my own personal style (if I have one). I’m not sure that I want to be a full time wedding photgrapher but the few that I would do I would hope
to try and offer something a little different. I know this would not be to everyones taste but it may be an interesting compliment to the usual
shots people ask for. This shot was a quick grab and one I didn’t even remember taking until I was processing afterwards. Were this in fact the “Big Day”
i would have taken a lot more time to compose the shot as I wanted it. Hopefully the bride would be a willin participant in my madness.
