I am dipping my toe a into street photography a little bit now.. It certainly requires a fair amount of skill and quick thinking.

Love the first one, mist and all.Nicely composed. Not to mad on the second,The third made me laugh, the look on the girls face is pricless, and the man playing the guitar does not have a care in the world. Its a pity he was not further to the right of the frame to even it out a bit.

Well that’s not a bad start at all. Some really nice images there. First one is very poignant…lovely feel to it…second one I really like, only niggle would be the vertical line going through the man’s shoulder…but otherwise I think it’s a very interesting image. I think Mr. Bresson would have appreciated the geometry of it..lots of curves and lines.

Last one is a fun shot okay..like it too..although I think it could do with a big hunk of anti clockwise rotation to straighten it up.

Might meet ya out there some day soon :D

Thanks for the feedback guys, its definitely fun and challenging..
I deliberately didnt straighten the last one as i was standng at an angle to the busker and a straigten cropped too much out.

When I shoot on the streets, I don’t have too high expectations. The most important thing is to capture the moment…. and you certainly did on the last one. It’s a pity, the girl is not in focus, but I guess there was not much light and you had to open up the aperture. I would personally crop from the right, after the end of “create your own”. That way you would put the people and the text a bit more into the centre.

I like the second one, too, only for the contrast.

All 3 have their merits but I do like #2 for some reason. A clean image with what looks like a cleaner.

I think Zoltans suggestion for the last one would work well as it would isolate the faces of both people. The OOF lady – it adds to the image as it makes it look more spontaneous, more emphasis on the moment to capture.

So, you’re dipping your toe, you say? I watch with interest…

I think the first one is the best out of the three, the other two just dont hold that much interest for me. Sorry.

I think I would like number 1 more without the people on the bench (and hence not be “street”). The fogginess in the background is really nice.

On the the second one I go back and forth about would it have been better if the end of his brush (or stick or whatever that is) could be seen or is it better with the mystery (it could be a guy walking his dog maybe (?)). In any case, I like it and it is my favourite of the three.

I like the expressions on the faces of number 3 but agree it would work better if not tilted. But when out on the street, it can be difficult to shoot straight if you are working fast.

All in all, a decent collection.

Thanks for all the comments, this thread has sunk a little. Its brilliant to get such detailed feedback..
To try answer a few questions,

#1 . I like this one, just for the mood, the general feeling of it.. I would love to have gotten it from the front but wasnt that brave!

#2, I just grabbed this shot through gates so i was poking my camera thru the holes between them and just managed to keep him in the shot. He was cleaning up in Temple Bar.

#3. I just love the moment captured in this. It was probably the first time in my short street photography career that I captured “the precise moment” .. I left it titled as I felt when straightened I lost too much of the image.

Hopefully with brighter evenings I get to expand my street photography range.

Thanks for all the comments, each one is appreciated.

Maybe these are not perfect, but I came back again to look at the third photo. The contrast between sharpness and blur, happiness and boredom/stress is actually great… and thanks for focusing on the happiness. It might be just an accident, but it’s a good one.

hi. nice shots. The first i think would be better with the right hand side cropped out. Leaving it just the three figures on the bench alone in the park. The Second is a nice linear piece. I wondered for a while if it might be better without the man, but actually i think he makes it. The third is a funny little moment, but i think the girl who is looking out at the camera is a little distracting and takes a little from the shot, but i suppose if you had waited for her to pass then the guitarists expression would have changed also.
