First Strobist Attempt

    Had my first attempt at a Strobist-type shoot last Sunday, got these out of it:

    1.

    SB800 camera right handheld model head height
    MUA: Michelle (kandigloss) http://www.modelmayhem.com/1333288″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;

    Not sure if this should be rotated due to the slanted window behind

    2.

    SB800 on ground camera right, SB600 tripod head height
    model: Daria (MUA) http://www.modelmayhem.com/719425″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.wingsofenvy.com

    3.

    SB800 camera left tripod model head height, SB600 slave camera right on ground
    MUA: Michelle (kandigloss) http://www.modelmayhem.com/1333288″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;

    Both in TTL mode, I can’t remember the relative flash ev settings, but pretty sure they were just at 0 default.

    I would very much like some criticism on them so I can improve my technique. Thank you in advance!

    Hi

    I think the results are great. One and three being the better images in my view.

    Thanks very much, Sean, really appreciate that. Any specific reasons why you didn’t like two? I’d just like to better myself. Cheers!

    i would also say that images one and three are the best here. you would not notice the use of the flash so much as compared to second image were you can clearly see that flash was used.On the third image in particular the balance between ambient light and the flash looks pretty good to me. However on the 1st image the hand on the model looks to be blown out or at least it appears that way on this monitor, but if that’s the case it should be easy enough to correct.
    Over all i got to say well done.. they are nice images

    Thanks for your comments! Looking back on #1, I agree, the hand is blown, and the pink tint may be a WB issue, will have a go on correcting those next time.

    Thanks for your comments and advice!
