This is a photo I took while being taught the basics of studio lighting recently. I don’t like the tshirt print and did consider trying to clone it out but after a couple of attempts quickly abandoned the idea.

    Critique very welcome :)

Very nice portrait I assume you got the effect you were looking as in dark down the one side. This also brings out the lines on his face and help make this a great shot.
Why don’t you crop the picture just above the top button this will remove the print.

    Hiya Tracey,

first off, that’s a great shot … great connection between the subject and the camera, and very well exposed where it is lit,

might I suggest peraps a tiny bit of light on the right hand side of the subjects face, just to add a little seperation from the background? A white reflector would suffice nicely …

as for the print … it sounds like you’ve learned an important lesson … better to get it right in camera rather than trying to fix it in photoshop …

Although, like soda said … a tighter crop would eliminate the distracting print…

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sodafarl, yes a crop might have been the way to go with this. I did try it later but didn’t like the shot without the body! So yes, a big lesson learned in regards to getting the elements right with the camera.

I agree with Phil, the shot could benefit from some additional light on the left … will definitely experiment with that in my next practice session!
