This was taken on my digital camera a few weeks back, it was the photo that got me thinking maybe i would like to do this more often. Obviously lacks the class of the photos i’ve seen here today since joining, but it’s the best i have taken to date. Was still snowing in the distance so kind of contributed to a duller background :?

    hello Brian, welcome onboard

There a few things I would change on this, in my view the background is too dull, its hard to distinguish between the sky and the hills, but you can use a tighter crop to make the most of not having an interesting background.

I would also look for more interest in the foreground to add to the shot.

Look forward to see more of your stuff.

Brian welcome to the site, the recent snow gave us some great
photo opportunities, this is a nice scene but could benefit from a
little bit of tweaking, I dont know what sort of processing software
you use but from just giving it the basic shots of contrast adjustment,
and sharpening in Picasa it made quite a difference, so with photoshop
or similar you would be able to really bring out the details.

Just one small thing for future reference (it is a “thing” of mine  ) try
to avoid power lines sometimes impossible I know.!!

this image can become a fantastic one with PS adjustments. In the moment it is still unprocessed in my eyes. try it. cheers Madeleine

I havent processed it at all, as i dont have any experience of doing so.
It’s basically the naked photo i took, no editing whatsoever, just thought it was a nice one, obviously needs work and them pesky powerlines lol
Thanks for the responses, i was kind of nervous as to what type of feedback i’d get but i’m happy now :)

The processing etc, is something i will have to learn and “trial and error with” i presume.
Any free programs you can suggest that i can play with?

ok so i found picasa, and i played around with it a little, and i have learnt in some small ways the help of editing after taking the photo.
here is a slightly altered version, maybe i hav done right, maybe wrong?
    suggestions?

Can you see the difference yourself? I can, I know Picasa is very basic
but I find it good for learning the fundamental adjustments, like contrast,
light fill, saturation, and sharpening (go easy on the sharpening less is more)

Look forward to seeing more :)

Yeah i see quite a difference, in the way that when i cropped some of the higher section, closed the photo in a bit better, reduced the more “blurred” area.
The contrast was a nice change to it, and yeh maybe a little overboard on the sharpness.
Still, i’m motivated a bit better, glad to see a nice result from a first time experience of editing a “raw” picture.
    On and up!!!!!
Thanks for the help, very much appreciated :)
