First wedding C&C
-
BrianParticipant
I had my first “proper” wedding last month in Germany of all places. I took some shots at my sister in law’s wedding a year ago. This one was for friends, and they weren’t too fussy which took some of the pressure off, but not much! It was a great learning experience, although it was fairly unconventional so I’m looking forward to doing another friends church wedding next month for more experience.
I’m very happy overall with the results, although some were better than others. I did better with the outdoor shots which wasn’t a big surprise, I’ll blame my (very average) equipment for some of it
I definitely learned the importance of planning. I didn’t really get a chance to run through the running order of the wedding with the couple, which caused some problems. And also it was fairly informal which made it unpredictable. I got caught “out of position” a few times (like being a defender!) which meant I missed one or two important shots, but it’s all learning I suppose.
Anyway C&C appreciated & welcome

easParticipantHi Brian,
I think they’re all good shots, not a whole lot wrong with them. They show a happy couple and definitely a good level of competency behind the camera.
A couple of suggestions :
In number 12 I like the tree but I’d probably have used it bit differently in the composition. It is seems to be dividing the couple more than anything. I do like the metaphor of growth and love though.
In number 20 – I’d have asked the gent to get his hand involved somehow. IMO the casual hand in pocket while kissing his new wife is a bit…well, too casual. Her bouquet could have been brought up into the shot too. It seems to be an unwanted accessory hung down the way it is.
Number 3 – I’d be tempted to leave out. Not a very flattering moment IMO.
Number 23 is very nice, I like everything about it.
good luck at your next wedding!
BrianParticipantHi eas,
Thanks for the reply. Some very valid points there.
No.12 Good point about the tree, I was thinking along the same lines but this was the only one in the series where they were looking at each other.
No. 10 I didn’t really direct them on the day at all to be honest. I thought he should kiss his new wife whichever way felt right! Also, if you knew the bride, you’d know the bouquet was an unwanted accesory! She didn’t even want any photographs!
No.3 I presume you mean unflattering. I don’t see how, i think it’s a very tender moment between mother and daughter.
No.13 This was one of my favourites too. I cropped out a good bit of the sky. Not sure if I should have left in some more. I have some more versions though.
BrianParticipantSome of these may now be different because I changed some stuff on Flickr, thus messing up the links……. You know yerself
The ones C&C’d by eas above are still the same I think, so that should still make sense.

Thank you!
miki gParticipantWell done Brian. For a first attempt, you captured a good variety of subjects. #3 I think is a lovely moment even though the little girl looks tired.
nkeeganParticipantWell done! I’d most definitely be proud of these as a first attempt at a wedding! The planning does help take the stress off, but you seem to have done just fine.
