Flash Experimenting C&C please

Having attended a workshop with Ronan Palliser I have been experimenting with a single off camera flash with home made diffuser and lastolite reflector. Any C&C on these is most gratefully appreciated.

Canon 7D, Canon 24-105mm 85mm, 1/250″, f5.6, iso 100, Wireless flash

Hi Mikka.
Don’t know much about this kinda thing, but you’ve done very well in avoiding blown highlights considering how reflective the subjects are. The shadows in the lower left are a little distracting though. Well done

Thanks Miki, I find it very hard to get the lighting right with just the one flash unit, hence the bottom left shadows…………./Mikka

I hoping to do a bot of this more too. I think you’ve balanced the light quite well. Out of curiosity, where was the reflector?

Hi Mikka,

Looking to get into off camera flash myself and got the below book recently. It’s amazing the stufff that the 7D or any of the newer Canon bodies can do with flash groups and pushing the bias from 1 group to another, flash exposure compensation etc.

It gives great diagrams of where the equipment was located for each shot so you can relate the results to the setup.

Highly recommended!

Nothing wrong with the lighting here, particularly with the first image. For one
off camera flash and a reflector that looks really good…
