just lookin through that Dimitri Depaepe’s flickr and yeah good pictures, nice composition but seriously calm down on the ole photomatix there buddy, they’re totally overdone and yeah as you say all the same effect, and not a good effect i don’t think. if he’d be a little more subtle with his photomatix he’d deserve the awesomes and to delete someone for bringing up the lack of depth in his work is just childish.

Just like to add my gripe. Famous-ish people on flickr. Like Dave Gorman, the Googlewhacking bloke:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/dgbalancesrocks/

He’s not a bad photographer, but he’s far from great. He gets fawned over in an obsessive fashion. Granted he’s a few decent pictures, but he’s secured a job with some skateboarding (?) magazine as a photographer “based on his FlickR account”. Let’s be honest here, he hasn’t. He got it becuase he’s on the telly, he writes for the Observer, he’s a comedian and he’s big profile.
I mean, how many amateur photographers out there with an interest in skateboarding would be better suited to the job?!

    Grrrr…

    100% agreed mehfesto.

I’m a fan of Dave Gorman, but the kind of praise he’s getting for his photography is ridiculous. I saw a tribute from a photographer I recognise and admire on there, spitting bile about him being a great photographer.

    Shame on you Sir

It’s easy to knock famous people because they try to be human. Flickr can be a cesspit for a few egotistical photographers – granted. But “famous” people can be non-famous photographers too.
Here’s another famous person but not famous photographer who you may not realise is around. He may be on Flickr too…you’d never know. Personally I wouldn’t rate his stuff but some may.

To be honest mate, the words Flickr and credibility are not
Words I would ever consider using in the same sentence. Flickr for me
is mainly storage. I have had some decent comments from some folks
of this site but to be honest some of them have been totally ridiculous.
One I do think is funny is how obvious some of the insanity really is.
One of my contacts has a preference for shooting nude self portraits.
Now don’t get me wrong she is an attractive woman but her shots are nothing to
sing and dance about. However every shot she posts has literally hundreds of “awesome”
or “inspirational” comments. I mean not to sound like a sh*t but the shots are rubbish.
The only reason she gets so many comments is because she boobies out. Having said that
she does have some other pretty damn good shots that rarely hit five to ten comments.

I would never rate my photography based on Flickr, nor would I use it to obtain valuable
or constructive criticism. I’ll keep PI for that, where people are honest and constructive.
