Flumes for Grown-Ups

Last weekend at the Tate Modern,
an installation by Carsten Holler in the Turbine Hall.
Amazing looking slides, about 7 of them.

    I queued up,
but wasn’t allowed on with my bag and camera.
I really wanted a picture of the inside of one of them too-

    More difficult lighting,
    more hand holding.

    Any comments appreciated-

Makes me want to join in the fun – not!
So, did you deposit the gear and take the descent ? Do tell!
Perhaps a crop from the right to just before the pair looking on from the top balcony.

I reckon P&S’s crop would work well (assuming he means chop off the right side beyond the couple).

The right hand quarter is quite dark and adds little.

I like the coldly metallic feel of the rail, the floor and the tubes.

Certainly one way to get the kids interested in art!!

Would have been cool to get a shot travelling down the tubes okay. I like the metallic quality too and agree with the crop suggestion..though it would mean losing the people queuing, which I like too. Decisions, decisions!!

    Thanks for your comments all-

I’ve had a look at that crop,
    and it certainly works-
I think I could get rid of that column to the right completely-

    The lighting was particularly difficult,
with the flumes lit by projected blue light.
The bridge that the people were standing on was not lit at all-
giving a very theatrical feel to the installation.

I did queue up to go down,
but wasn’t allowed on with my gear,
so I had to retire sheepishly from the head of the queue,
like a particularly naughty little middle aged boy.

    Thanks again for the comments-
