Flying Kites on the Bay

jb7Participant
rm mentioned three of these boats-
so I did a keyword search, and a couple of pictures came up that have all three in them-
So here’s one-From the National Championships in Howth a few weeks ago-
I’ve got about 4000 sailing pictures,
and I’m only halfway through keywording them-
but this shows the benefits of filling in the metadata fields-I can’t imagine how long it would have taken to go through them all manually-
(well I can- Probably a similar amount of time to entering the keywords in the first place)If only it wasn’t so mind numbingly tedious, even in Aperture-
Anyway, this picture really only makes sense when you can see the faces,
but what can you do-j
rmMemberWell how about that! I’m not sure how you couls tell which is which they all look like the ubiquetous white caravan to me.
Superhero’s sail number is IRL5384. Grey hull.
jb7ParticipantrmMemberthe forcast is for a repeat performance of last Sunday this weekend :D
jb7ParticipantWill there be lots of boats out,
do you think?177 entries last week seems like quite a lot-
was that for the first sunday only?rmMemberThere are 177 entered for the series (6 Sundays, of which last weekend was the first)
It’s not as big as it was a few years ago when the Dunleary boats used to venture north but the Autumn league is still a big deal. At lot of boats you don’t see week in week out are entered. There was quite a lot of damage done last weekend and if the forcast stays bad then it may put a few more off. I still think you’ll get 100+ to the start line.
jb7ParticipantThe forecast isn’t bad,
just a bit miserable-http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/dayforecast.asp?zipcode=Dublin&day=4
A little broken cloud would be good-
I’ll let you know if I’m going out,
give you all a chance to scrub your decks-j
rmMemberThe spot forcast for 27km Malahide Estury on the below is usually the more acurate one this far out.

It gives an identical synopsis for Sunday as last week … and it blew up to 35-40kts (so they say)
mervifwdcParticipantVery cool shot! Never saw light like that, but then never saw these boats sailing. I like it.
Merv.
IforParticipantJust came across this one, an exceptional shot, I really like it and I’ll go as far as to say that this is the best yachting shot I’ve seen.
Have to disagree with Martin though, I think the sky as it is adds atmosphere to the shot.JB – I was in Dun L. recently, saw some shots in the H&H bookshop on the stairs, I recognised them from this site. Got home and checked, saw they’re yours, they look really well there. They should put this one on the wall now as well!
Ifor
jb7ParticipantThanks Merv. thanks Ifor, nice of you to say so-
no plans for this one just yet,
though I prefer this one from the same night anyway-https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=10162
rm, earlier in the thread you had an enquiry about a number of boats-
just to complete the set,
here’s one I came across from the Lambay-Not your usual racing shot-
There’s someone having a lie-down here-
I presume that’s the tactician? How’s the forecast for Sunday?
j
rmMemberThat’s us all right. About 500m from the finish of the Lambay Race. All looks very relaxed doesn’t it! Far from it.
