Foggy Sunrise overlooking Cahersiveen

  • Hi Folks, the processing took a while but finally here are some results of my 4am mountain climbing adventure. The panoramas are stitched (3 images) and 3 exposures for each. Processed in 16 bit because of the subtile light. Comments very appreciated. Take care Madeleine….so late again.

Lookin’ good Madeleine. Maybe too much fog in the first? It’s 35 years since I was last in Cahirciveen, time I went for another look!

#2 and #3 for me, well worth the early start

3 and 4 are delightful, in 1 I’d prefer less obtrusive background — all those bungalows [is there anywhere in the country free of them?]

    Hi Madeleine,

Theres something about #1 that dosen’t quite work for me.
Maybe be it’s the expanse of fog taking up more than 50% of the image.
I can also imagine that lovely expansive vista as a crystral clear image. (no fog or haze)
Maybe that sounds a bit cliched and not what you intended but hey its just an opinion and not
in any way meant as a criticism.

I really like #3 and #4. I find the colour and the shapes really attractive.
I might have placed the sun in #4 a little off centre but again thats just personal.

    Well done.

    John.

    thanks folks

    ALEX: It was all about the fog. Well then it’s time that you follow the call ( ;

JMAC: Yes, early hours are gold.

RC53: everywhere bungalows, in the last 5 years 200% more….

John: Your comment is very welcome…. constructiv criticism alsways good to improve. I agree that i will try to capture that with good light…for sure a great location and view. I know what you mean about no 1 but i can’t point on it as well…seems to be the balance of big fog space and tiny space for busy background or something like that….

These picture are really nice !! No’s 2 & 3 for me anyway. I agree with the points made about the fog in No 1, however i still really like the picture. It’s strange to see land above the clouds for once haha :)

I find the castle is a little lost in #1 (but it may not be at full printed size). Loosing a bit of the left and bottom seems to help. #2, for me, is the best of the bunch.

I looked again at #1; the main focus is the castle rising from the fog, yet there is slightly too
much fog encroaching on it; and the background is confusing; an ancient castle rising from
the mists of time, yet surrounded by this bungaloid development — the two don’t mix, unless the
idea is ancient and modern. Perhaps a slightly higher viewpoint if possible, and crop/compose
to eliminate the bungalows — simplify, concnetrate on the essentials — good overall idea, but
    a near miss.

thank you folks, rc53…good point regarding the architecture mix. didn’t see it like that but works in that way. I have some other images, very similar but maybe i will find a better balance. Will post it as soon as i found it.
