For Sale: Canon 17-40L

Just to let the rest of you guys know. I mailed Mike regarding this lens and agreed a price of 565 for this lens last friday was supposed to meet him every day since then to check it out and every day there was a reason he could not make it. I was to meet him tonight at around eight so I rang him at eight he asked could we put it off until tomorrow when I said that tomorrow wouldnt suit he proceeded to tell me that actually he had decided not to sell the lens at all and was going to keep it . So to say that I feel well and truely jerked around would be an understatment between E-mails phonecalls and not to mention going to the bank withdrawing money. So anybody dealing with this guy in future beware and be prepared for a long drawn out affair..

And for it’s worth I had a similar experience with Redser on a different ad.
Some other Forums I know require a minimum number of postings before your allowed access the Buy and Sell section!.

As I was quick to write my previous mail regarding my dealings with Mike regarding this lens I feel I should also let you know that Mike has mailed me today and explained his situation and has said that he sees my point of view on the situation and has told me that he is willing to let me have the lens if I still want it he has even knocked off a small few quid…
Had a similar experience on here when trying to sell my 20D and grip a while back… I wont mention the guys name publicly but if ye want it you can PM me…
Basically I had just sold the camera and grip to a friend privately but another mate was also selling his for the same price. I asked this potential buyer if he was interested
in this other one and eventually he said he was. So as I am not from Dublin and he was, I arranged a friend (from Dublin) to meet up with him in the big smoke and we exchanged
numbers and set a time and a place…! The fecker rang then (10 mins before they had arranged to meet) to say that he wasn’t prepared to walk from
Ranelagh to Landsdown Road (about 20 mins walk or 10 minutes cab ride) even tough he agreed it earlier and that he was no longer interested..! After me
getting the camera to Dublin from Drogheda and putting a friends evening out of whack….. Grrrrrrr….. I was pi%%ed…!On that point…. on other forums they have a sticky at the top of the Buy and Sell thread where you can say what dealing ye had with other members and
recommend them if all went well or otherwise…! Should we do that here…?Richie

I think a sticky detailing the people to be avoided or who youve had good experiences with would be an excellent idea, id certainly like to know who the bad eggs are before I went arranging to meet up with them. Of course, if that went in hand with the idea that you cant access the for sale threads until you had a certain amount of posts first then it would be all the better..
In the end its goin to come down to the integrity of the seller and buyer though, dont mess someone around if you wouldnt like it done to you and always treat sellers with a little suspicion, unless youve already had a lot of dealings with them in here.
Alanmet mike tonight to buy this lens tried it and bought it. Messing around with it at home and very happy with it its as sharp as I hoped it would be. Got a good deal off mike too so all in all I am a happy camper.
Glad to see it all worked out in the end.. Happy shooting with the new lens!
