I was asked to go to Wicklow Rugby Club on Saturday morning and take some shots of their under 16’s match against Saracens. Thoroughly entertaining match with Wicklow running out deserved winners. Took a load of shots but when I was looking back over them that night, it was this shot which stood out for me.
Showed (IMHO) what real sport is about when you have amateur teams playing against one another in dreadful cold, wet, windy dull and dreary conditions yet people are there giving up their valuable time to manage, coach, participate, cheer on and support their team.
I had a look at it in B&W Mark & I think it looks an awful lot better if you don’t mind me saying so.
I don’t think colour really helps convey the conditions in which both teams played in.
it would be interesting to see it in black and white but i dont think the colour detracts to much – it looks misty, cold and miserable.
i am a fan of black and white but one thing about it is that it automatically looks historical rather than contemporary. this is not always a desired effect and i am not sure that in this situation it would be the most appropriate
Thanks guys. John, I did not look at it in B&W but I liked the colour version cos the horrible grey day was sicking the colour out and I don’t think the B&W version would show this to the same effect.
Nice capture. I particularily like how the expression on the guy’s face (sitting) re-inforces how miserable the conditions were. Fair play to you for continuing to shoot in such conditions too.
