Fotospeed inks on epson printers
-
GCPParticipant
Just got a call from another locol photographer here in Galway to ask if I had any knowledge of Fotospeed Inks and how they compare to the Epson ultrachrome inks. Well, I know nothing about them but I’m just curious to know if anyone out there knows of them or has used them.
BarkerPhotographicParticipantHi Gerry, They compare very well and will save a lot of money for heavy users, however we have found that only Photographers using their printers virtually every day can really justify changing. Otherwise I would recommend sticking with the Epson genuine cartridges, they are more expensive but trouble free unlike most cheapie cartridges.
PermaJet inks & papers are also very good but you still need a little time & effort to get the most from the system (Downloading profiles etc), however having said that once you have tried some of the Fotospeed and PermaJet papers you may never look back.
Yes, you guessed it, we stock both product ranges..
Regards, Paddy BarkerValentiaMemberPaddy,
I have a 2100. I just had a look at your site. The Eco-Flo system mentions “Universal Black” Does this mean that it can be used for matt & glossy?
Just a note on the site. I am using Firefox and whatever way the frames are set up, the info on the Eco-Flo opens in a pdf frame at the bottom and is difficult to navigate. It would be better if it opened on a full page on its own. Just tried it in Internet Explorer and it’s the same. There is a lot of wasted space just below your logo and address details. Just mentioning it to help.

Regards, Paddy BarkerThanks Paddy for that. Personally I dont think I’d change. Its up and running and doing fine except for the 33ml of ink left in each cart when they read empty……….but I usually re-programme them again and get almost the lat drop out. My friend, however, has ideas on re-filling the empty epson carts, re-programming the chip and off they go again. He tells me it can be much cheaper than using the Epson Inks.
I had some Lyson inks on a 1290 printer some years back but they proved un-stable and there was drifting of colour months later so I got rid.

Hi Valentia,
Thanks for your comments. The Universal black does what it says on the tin, Matt & Gloss! Regarding your (very welcome) comments on the site: Whenever possible we try to create our own content, in our format, but sometimes (as in the case of PermaJet) we have problems. Firstly they favour PDF’s – which I don’t like, but also their site is full of Information, which is very useful, but both make it very hard to edit and present clearly.AnonymousParticipantHi Gerry,i’m with you on that one about the waste of inks left in the carts,i believe that the price of the 220mls have gone down over here to ?68 per cart! Maybe Paddy can clarify? Wonder does that include VAT?

Ben 8)Ben,
I’ve measured it and on the 220ml cart there is 33ml left in there. Epson say its so that the ink lines in the printer will not collapse due to suction when the cart runs dry……..but do you really need 33ml to keep them open. I usually keep them until I have 7 empty ones of a given type and then fill 6 of them into the 7th. Reset the chip again to read full and off we go.It is really that ever 7 carts you buy you actually throw away one……now that does not make sense at all and particularly so in these days of re-cycling and waste management. Last invoice I have for these from Dublin is ?66.50 each plus VAT 21% which is really ?80.00 each and Epson expect you to discard ?11.42 worth of that ink.
ThorstenMemberGerry – not sure if you’ve seen this yet – http://www.epsonsettlement.com/
It makes for interesting reading but I doubt it will have any impact over here.
weelesMemberI have been using their continious ink system on my R1800 for almost a year and have had no problems what-so-ever. I bought the system on the recommendation of my Sister who uses it commerically, and has done for probably 2-3 years, again with a single problem.
spend some time, ink and paper getting the settings right at the start. With 100ml cartridges you can afford to waste a little on test prints getting to know the best profiles, from then on you will find the results very consistant. I certainly would not go back to 8 x £12 cartridges!
