Hi,
Found this while looking at old photo’s on my main image storage drive. Taken with my first DSLR in 2005. The area is in Derry/Londonderry (depending on who you ask) near “Free Derry Corner”.
Comments and critique welcome, (i went for a gritty look and the slight underexposure is deliberate :p)
Richy…
Liam2673ParticipantNice image Richy, suitably grey clouds to go with the stark imagery. All you need now is a skin head 5-year old holding a toy gun…..(for poignancy)
richy5497MemberI had a skinhead 4 yr old who kept trying to muscle in to the shot, but i told him it was only a “Toy gun i was after, but thanks anyway”

Nice HDR
I like it, but i think it is just too dark, there is detail there that could
be a little clearer. I know you wanted to go for the dark look.Is this HDR?
ExpresbroParticipantI like this too. It looks heavily photoshopped..but I think it suits the image, although the car looks a little strange.
One minor thing I’d suggest is cropping just above the lampost and lose the blown sky section as I don’t think it adds anything and distracts from the real subject.

DeeboParticipantNice image. like this and lots of detail.
I used to live in Derry and was close to this for both home and employer.
I agree with Rob., I would crop a bit tighter to remove the bright part of the sky, maybe even clone over

Nope, but it looks like it. Thats what i thought when i did it. I used Raw processing tweaks to get the effect. “Tweaks” is perhaps the wrong word when you move sliders all the way :). To be honest it was darker, but i lightened it and i’m loath to lighten it further. I know where you are coming from technically, but i think the mood i’m trying to convey would be better with a darker image.
I see what you mean about the top of the sky. If i was to crop it, i’d like to do some burn/dodging to create some more contrast in the remaining sky?
cathaldParticipantNice job I’ve just seen this
I was brought up just behind where you took the shot
I got a shot of some of the graffitti on the wall just behind that car which made me laugh Ali G me thinksnp72ParticipantFor a colour shot, I think it almost has a B&W quality to it, even the silver car almost looks like it could have been painted onto the wall. I think the overall shot, with the similarity in tone from the car, mural and clouds, with the hint of colour in the surroundings, the photo probably wouldn’t have worked as well if it were taken as a B&W, but thats only me view of it.
