CubanjunkyParticipantdamien.murphyParticipantPicasa is a nice, simple catalogue manager, but is quite light on the image-editing front. I imagine you are after an image editing program that will give you a little more control, but suspect GIMP was way too much. Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
If you want to perservere with GIMP, the links Chris provides may be a good start, and would add that good video tutorials are invaluable and to perhaps seek them out also.
If you want something less complex, there are some other good free softwares out there, but I am no longer versed in the programs out there these days, but google is your friend, and you will find the usual suspects quite easily.
Personally, I use Lightroom, which I find gives me a great catalogue manager, along with enough editing capabilities to prevent me looking elsewhere. It’s not free however, but I consider it one of the best options out there for photographers, and why I mention it. Aperture is a similar offering, but despite being on a mac, I am quite happy to nail my colours to the Lightroom mast.
Good luck with whatever you choose, and just remember to let your needs dictate your use of whichever software you choose. Many photo-editing programs are quite bloated these days, and its easy to get bogged down trying to understand every feature.
ReggieaMemberYeah, a lot of free online softwares for our overwhelming photography needs. I’m using Picasa & GIMP too.
