Free Studio Open Day for members of Photography Ireland

Just to echo what everyone else is say, many thanks Dave. It was a very informative morning and after hearing the prices for the units I’m very tempted as well.
I can’t remember the name of the place Dave bought them from. Does anyone know?
IOPParticipantHi All,
many thanks for the kind words. It was a lot of fun meeting so many formum members in one go and the laughs/slagging was worth it alone :)
I’m glad that everyone saw how little rocket science is involved and how for the price of an Nikon SB600 or Canon 430EX Flash Unit you can get a start in Studio Lighting.
In answer to Darren’s question the supplier is JM Photo and they have the Digi Studio Kit which includes 2 Flash Heads, 2 Stands, 1 Soft Box and 4 Coloured Gels for less than ?300 plus VAT. They wouldn’t light a truck in a warehouse but they’re grand for 2 and 3 people shots/product type shots.
This is the link: http://www.jmphoto.ie/showfullimage.php?img=studio_equipment/falkon_eye/images/digi_studio_lighting_kit.jpg and let them know Digital Beginners sent you.
This is the updated version of the Flash Meter I was using (I think Gunn’s have it) and while not the best on the market it’s good enough for Digital Studio Photography and it also doubles as an ordinary Light Meter as well: http://www.amazon.com/Polaris-Digital-Flash-Meter/dp/B00009UTKE
For those want to spend less we’ll have the studio available for ?30 per hour in the next week or so,
Enjoy!
Dave

nolongerParticipantJust wanted to add my own thanks, Dave, the session yesterday was great. Of course, it’s leading to me buying more gadgets (flash meter), so my gf probably won’t be impressed, but she doesn’t need to know! :) Oh, and for those of us who were there with the D50 – I looked it up, and the max sync speed is 1/500, not 1/250 :)
RobMemberExcellent. Very enjoyable session.
Imagine my surprise when it turns out that Dave (Digital Beginner) and I go
back quite a way. In fact, he used to beat me up as a child. These days, I still
have all my own hair… Karma.Seriously, thanks Dave for all the tips, the tea, and the warm welcome. It was
great to finally meet a few of the forum members and put faces to those names. Now I’m off to post a couple of pictures of my fellow students…
Rob.
