    Hi Paul,

I really like the first one, but I would go with more of a square crop and get rid of the top of the frame. The detail on the bee is fantastic, and I like that you’ve provided some of the context with the flower. Sometimes I think macros get too close.

Would you mind sharing the technical details? I’m particularly interested in which lens you’re using.

Thanks Doug, I will try the square crop, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it in the first place!

Shot details are 100mm Canon Macro lens at f11, 1/250 second and flash fired

Very well done Paul. The first is excellent. Really is tack sharp for a high motion shot. Not easy to time this. Even if you know the flower will probably get visited at some time. The wait is excruciating. Is he landing or taking off?

The second one has a bit too much glare from the flash on the fly itself. But the image is again tack sharp. Pity the leaf on the bottom obscures it a little.

The Bee shot is fantastic. Lovely colours, detail & composition. Well done. I think the fly shot is good too, but the angle spoils it a little.

Hi Paul, 2 nice images there. I agree with previous comments, pity about the encroaching leaf in #2 and I think they could do with just a little off the top……./Mikka

    Thanks all

Dave – he wasn’t actually landing or taking off, he was hovering there doing his thing, that’s why I am so happy with the shot, because he was filtting from flower to flower and I was following him around the bush! I even had to climb into the paddling pool in my shoes to keep up with him :D , but he apparently liked this particular flower and hovered at it for 30 seconds or so. I actually would have expected to see some blurring in the wings, considering he was using them at the time
