Fuji FinePix X100
-
damien.murphyParticipant
I’d seen you were in Spain and thought you might have been disoriented upon leaving Hungary :)
Thumbed through Leni Riefenstahl’s book on Africa earlier, and must say I’m envious of getting to see Africa up close. Some great pics to be had, and maybe worthwhile to even pick up a point and shoot.. or perhaps a holga :)
Re: X100, I hope it is everything hoped for. I sold my D200 a while back because it was too heavy, and am hoping the X100 is the reasonably priced digital rangefinder I’ve been seeking, as it seems to be slim pickings these days if you want a compact camera WITH a viewfinder!
randomwayMemberThere is some more info about this camera. http://www.finepix-x100.com/latest-updates/focusing-details-revealed” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
It seems to me that Fuji thought of everything, and all the buttons and switches are in the perfect spot… I am really looking forward to getting my hands on one of these, and I will probably sell my liver at half price for it.
damien.murphyParticipantYes, big revelations seem to be confirmation of no rangefinder mechanism, and the lack of interchangeable lenses. To be honest I wasn’t expecting either, but some people have.
Its the first time in a long time a camera has claimed to be everything I wanted it to be, and I expect some serious competition in this segment if the Fuji proves to be more than vapourware. I wonder if it will take the incumbents out of their comfort zone. The majority of the big manufacturers seem to be content continuing along the dslr or dslr-alternative route.
I hope Fuji gets the menus right. They seem to be skirting the wire already re: attention to detail, with the lack of an iso button, forcing the user the commit the function button to iso, if they want an iso hard button.
In any case, I would have thought the going rate for a liver would have dropped proportionately with the number of years spent in Ireland. You might have to throw in a kidney too, with Fuji rowing back on their previous price point of $1,000.
SheldonParticipantI expect to have Fuji X100 on our stand at Photofest on the 3rd of April next!
damien.murphyParticipantLet the fondling begin.. :)
Glad to hear you have a copy Sheldon, I hear events in Japan have had a knock-on effect for the X100, as it has had on Canon with some of their production. Seems like a very nice camera, but don’t have a grand to spare at the moment, so probably better not handing one until I can :)
np72ParticipantIt’s a nice looking camera, and hopefully it will be a good one.
I saw something about it in the past few days, a review somewhere, that had been written since last week’s earthquake, that said it’s launch could be delayed in some way, or supplies could be a bit limited for a while.
SheldonParticipantIt is true that production has been delayed due to the events in Japan. However Fuji do have one in the country.
np72ParticipantWell, I’m sure there will be plenty of interest in it, it looks good and I think a lot of people will want it for its retro looks
damien.murphyParticipantIt’s looks don’t hurt, that’s for sure. I’m sure most buyers will be intent on taking pictures with it, instead of pictures of it though.. ;)
np72ParticipantI have a feeling people will use it plenty, and will not have a problem showing it off either
damien.murphyParticipantHa ha, never hurts to have a camera you want to bring with you everywhere :)
np72ParticipantWell, it was just that I had gotten a Lubitel about 4 years ago, and the first time I brought it out, 3 people with digital compacts were asking me what it was, and 1 even wanted to take photo’s of it as they’d never seen anything like it before, and I was by no means trying to show it off, was just trying to put my first roll of film through it, so I’m sure someone getting an X100 will want to show it off at some stage, or will get lots of questions, or people saying it looks like a film camera and are surprised it’s digital
damien.murphyParticipantRogMemberPicked up one of these little critters yesterday. :D
Most of the controls seem fairly logical, although I still had to revert to the dreaded manual a few times. I was convinced to go for it when I saw an image on some site somewhere. It was a B&W image of an old Mercedes, part covered with snow. When the image is opened at it’s ‘original’ size, the resultant screen shot you’re looking at would equate to a 6’x4’ poster! And even at that, the grille, bumper etc is still razor sharp.
That , along with trying it out in a camera shop, convinced me. I hope to run it through it’s paces over the next week or so, and I’ll post some results, thoughts etc then, hopefully. In the meantime, does anyone know if livers and kidneys come under the umbrella of ‘equipment for sale?’
Rog
damien.murphyParticipantCongrats, Rog. You’ll have to give us a detailed report, when you’ve had some time to get to grips with it properly. Was very impressed recently when looking at files from it, and would be quite tempted were I to have a spare grand knocking around. Where did you buy it, by the way? I see here in Dublin we do not seem to have the same availability issues, in being able to get our hands on the X100, as others.
Seems a smashing camera, although as someone who seems to see as a 50mm lens does, I suspect I would find the X100 a little wide at times..
