I’ve to shoot a college GAA match today and was wondering what settings would get me the best shots.
ISO Speed, Shutter Speed, Aperature etc….any help would be greatly appreciated.
Shoot wide open f2.8/f4/5.6 or whatever with a 300/400mm lens. Since its your first time keep the shutter speed above 1/500 sec and then adjust the ISO to suit this.
A quick check here in Laois gave me around 1/500 sec at f5.6 ISO 800.
Position yourself at the end of the pitch facing the attacking team you are most interested in and stick to the side of the pitch that allows you to shoot cross into the stand or crowd for the background. If you have a monopod use it and get down kneeling on the ground. If it rains make sure you are shooting downwind as the rain will interfere with the glass and it’s a pain to clean glass properly onsite.
cheers guys, unfortunately i couldn’t get back to the computer before the match but funnily enough those are the settings i pretty much used :D yay i must be a natural. I’ll post up the best ones when i’ve sorted through em. There were two pros at the match putting me to shame with their massive lenses. I had my monopod but i went without it after a while as i was able to get a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action handheld.
