GALWAY GATHERING for the Volvo Ocean Race 2009

As almost everyone knows the Volvo Ocean Race is landing in Galway around the end of May
first few days of June, so there has been some interest in having a PI meetup for May 30th
    thats Saturday.

A good chance to meet up with some of the forum users!

I can supply more information regarding accomodation etc later. I suspect this is going to be a big affair
it being the only stopover for fans in Ireland, England and France possibly and there is a lot going on
to attract people in for the general craic with a big festival theme going on.

So anyone interested in meeting up for the day or two?

I will take a run down on the saturday so stick my name down
Perhaps if there was some areas that will be best for parking you
can let us know as I’d say the parking will be a killer

    Yea no worries Cathald,

I would say most people would be coming in from the same direction
with the road network here so we could possibly meet at a parking
location and travel into town by bus.

I’m a bit disappointed today to hear that the boat show has been cancelled, I was looking forward to it.

Had been thinking of going this weekend 23/24 for the arrivals, I had heard there was fireworks and shows on then with the arrivals of the boats. Will it be impossible to get close to the boats – it was suggested to me that you’d be better off along the coast of galway bay than near the city – any ideas where? as its a big coastline :)?.

What are you hearing in Galway about the first weekend? unfortunately the 30th is out for me as down in Waterford that weekend.

    Hi Jason,

Yea theye is plenty of talk about it, and plenty of bump on the radio, the organisers are expecting 100,000!
There is FREE Music, fireworks and the works

Do you know what day you are coming down? I might be able to meet up at some stage if you are on
but I ahve a job on fior the weekend and it really centres around the weather so it could be Sat or Sun.

Anywhere along, Upper Salthill Road to the D’arcy Roundabout, Salhiltt Promenade and Grattan Road.
At the turn for MUTTON ISLAND head out round South Park along the coast and out to the end of Nimmos Pier
    they are good places.

You will Probably need a good long Tele 200+ and probably a shorter one for Nimmos Pier.
The end of DunAengus Dock could be good and obviously anywhere near the docks themselves.

They are in the process of erecting barriers all around the docks to make it safer for viewers and traffic is down to
1 lane instead of 2 there.

    6 pm ish tomorrow!

They are currently on schedule again !

Jason are you still planning on travelling?

Took a trip down to the docks today.

There is a good buzz there with a very big crowd.

The ‘Boats’ were out of the water being serviced and repaired
with the exception of Ericsson 3 and Telefonica Black.

After watching highlights of the boats arriving into dock I was really
sorry I didnt make it down there this morning . . .

    Here are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed boats being serviced . . .
