Nice pictures, nice looking food, I think a cleaner (by that I mean, less textured
and plain in colour) might have helped a little, no.1 works best for me… Of course
I had to give my vote to no.2 though!! What a well mannered dog! I think it would
be too much for Jess!!

First one in the second batch is the pick for me. The light is very good. Seems to be coming from back left, and skimming across the surface revealing texture. Very good. Maybe get a little lower too?
Could possibly be stronger with plain white dishes, putting focus on the food a little more? Just a suggestion.
Regardless, I wish I was eating them! So a successful shoot!
I hope that these food preparations are being consumed following the shoot?

Can I be fussy… can I? Ok then… more jalapenos (only 3 for that many crisps!), sour cream and salsa… less gaucamole. But that’s just me… cos I’m not a big Gaucamole fan.

jb7~~ok thanks J..I think that’s your way of saying..move along..next please :lol: and actually..I am pretty disgusted with the update..I was so rushed and spilled drops of salsa on the side of the gaucamole bowl and also the salsa looks smeared on the inside of the salsa dish. I am embarrassed. Very fundamental mistakes!! (my eyes are horrible :( )
Rob~~cool! Thanks for a different perspective..I am finding that believe it or not..this is one area where people really have different ideas about what is ok!
Jess the Springer~~thanks Sinead..about the dog..(even though Joseph says he voted for the dog photo just to throw me off I think he REALLY liked it!) Secretly it’s my fave as well..though not a photographic masterpiece by any means. I think am I going back to basic yeah..will tone it down for awhile until I get better.
PeteD~~thank you for that compliment! Great suggestions all..will take them on board. I do so appreciate the input. Just read more about your coffee..sounds absolutely divine!
nfl-fan~~Hi John! Eating them is part of the problem so far. We are eating them. I can remember back in high school I had a teacher who prepared food for photography. Well often it had to stand up to lights for ages and stuff back then..and it wasn’t really fit to be eaten if you watched it prepared. This here is real food for real people..so I take these shots so quickly..before things brown and wilted etc.
You are fussy…but that is what makes you such a great photographer too!!! Fussy is good.
Like you said before..this is distracting in a way that makes less easy to be objective about..but please keep up the critique of the quality of photography. I am new to photography!!! :wink:

into every forum. I might do something similar myself with fedoras,
though I may run into problems in the macro section :?I am the one who voted for the third one Sharon. I love the little white flowers and the beautiful green around the dish, it looks very different than the other photos. I think that once you brought in something else than just the food into the photos, they got more interesting. You could criticize the pic with the dog, but it draws attention and it works well I think.
As I told you before, your food series is very entertaining and of course the meals you prepare look fantastic! Keep on doing these, I can already see the improvement and I can’t wait for the next days meal.
Now, I’m off to cook something better than yours :)

I think yeah..the general consensus is leading toward that particular display..glad to get so much input…about the dog…honestly…if I could have had you in the photo… taking a big scrumptious bite…I would have preferred to try that style :DRob~~macro might be odd yeah..big black hole…but the art nude…well that would be class!! :lol:
randomway~~Thanks for the vote there Zoltan..you’ve really helped me think outside the box. It would never have occurred to me to even try something like that without your suggestion..and I know in the end..it’s not practical..but I do agree with you that it’s more interesting from a less utilitarian perspective and more whimsical approach. I guess in the end…even I..haven’t decided if I want to advertise the food or the photo.
