If you go to Kyoto you’ll probably see a few “geisha” wandering around the tourist areas during the day.
These tend not to be the real thing, just women dressing up for the fun of it, there are a number of geisha costum shops with very high quality gear where they dress you up.
To find the real deal, you have to go to the nightlife areas like Gion. Geisha will always be in a hurry, going to some appointment, moving fast in their crazy footwear. Maiko are apprentice geisha, they generally wear a hanging flower decoration in their hair.
