Geotagging, Panoramio and Google Earth

Has anyone investigated the powerful alliance that Paranamio and Google have created?
Images uploaded into Panaramio are now selected for inclusion into an overlay for Google Earth. The more popular the image is, the more prominent it is at lower zoom levels on Google Earth.
I’ve already started to investigate geotagging using Google Maps and Google Earth. Here’s my first go using these systems.

It appears that Google’s Picassa also allows integrated geotagging using placemarking in Google Earth. Then uploaded files to Panaramio are automatically mapped and then if selected they will appear in Google Earth.
I have one or two concerns regarding the terms and conditions of these two powermongers although it appears that licensing is restricted to web publication by panaramio and GE and with credit always being given to the photographers.
Anyone here currently using Panoramio?
ChristianpParticipantI started using it ages ago… but then kinda forgot about it. I just checked and apparently 3 of my 4 images are on Google earth… http://www.panoramio.com/user/266367
I don’t have Google Earth where I am at the moment, so I can’t check. But it seems a good way to get lots of hits.
andy mcinroyParticipantChristian,
I’m seeing all 4 of yours in Google Earth.
One critisism of the paronamio/google earth alliance was that there were just too many blue squares on the map and that GE users were turning off the overlay in disgust. Now I think they are using a new system where only the most popular photos are seen at low zoom. If there are only a few photos of an area, they will be seen at low zoom also.
It seems to be a very powerful system and one which might bring a lot of traffic in the future.
I’ve signed up and I hope to get more of my best photographs up there over the next few months.
