I joined this site in the hope that my pics would get some critiscism, how do you achieve this? I know I should be reviewing others pics, could this be the reason
cathaldParticipantHi bluesman if you post your shot in the relevant section eg.landscape people and ask for serious critiscism

MartinOCParticipantHi Bluesman,
I wonder the same myself sometimes, I don’t understand fully why some shots get passed over, and others discussed in depth. Some people certainly have some very interesting shots, but it is also true that the main interests of the members are in certain areas and that is where the good feedback comes from.
It is definately true that if you start giving people feedback they will have a look at your photos too, it is up to beginners to break into the site a bit.I think the big reason that some photos don’t get feedback is that they are very different and people without having experience in that area, don’t feel they have a strong opinion to add. If you post landscapes or portraits you will probably get lots of opinions and very good advice. Urban shots, abstract less so.
I find it hard to comment on seascapes, landscape, or portraits, I’ve not much experience in taking them.I think 2 of my last 4 photo posts didn’t get any feedback and a couple of the others got more discussion on the subject matter than the photography.
But my photos are mostly under the category of travel and perhaps not so technical so people don’t have much advice on them (or they are too crap for advice  ) .
But I don’t think I’m near the top of feedback givers either.Give it a bit of time, if (photo style) interests match it is mutually benefical, advice going back and forth, that is what the site is about, and a bit of crack.
Thats what I think anyway.Martin
nfl-fanParticipantIt’s a strange place… the C+C forum…
Some people like to post mainly on their own shots… thread bumping all day long
Some people like to post mainly on their pal’s shots…
Some people like to post mainly on shots taken in the same province that they live…
Some people like to post mainly on shots within a particular style eg. landscape…
Some people like to post mainly to contradict or correct others…
A lot of us just post on the better shots… cos it’s often the easiest option. If you can past all that then you’ll be doing well. That being said… most members are pretty cool.
I looked at you bank building shot about three times and wondered what to say… but it was hard to say anything truly constructive. For me it was neither bad nor something to get excited about… it sorta sat in that “void” where it’s hard to say anything.
jb7… who seems to be a fan of architecture, and I think has some sort of background in same, hasn’t been around much of late… but he does enjoy a good post in the architecture forum.
I think all 3 of your images to-date have been building/architecture based and I’m not sure if this is the most popular area on the site.
Asking a question or posing a dilemma in your thread title always help to get reaction… eg. “Does this crop work?, “Need advice please!”. I know what you’re thinking… “I don’t want to grovel” but you have to start somewhere :)
But you’re right to ask the question… you’ll get 20 welcoming responses to a post in the Introductions sections… then a lot of those members disappear… never did get that?

lousyParticipantWelcome ‘bluesman’- aka ‘papabear’ …I wondered if you had gotten my PM on the other side.
I hadn’t noticed anything of yours on here but will have a gander asap.
Just post your images and everything will fall into place. Most of all enjoy the site and IMO yes it pays to comment as well as be commented on, so take it from there.

randomwayMemberI don’t really get feedback on some of my pictures either if it helps… true, that I’m posting less for technical critique nowadays.
bluesmanParticipantThanks for your replys, it’s nice to know that there is someone out there! I think that my reasons for posting pice are really quite simple, if you show pics to friends or exhibit locally you usually get nice comments, not really what you want, it’s better to gt critiscism from people you don’t know even if it can seem a bit cruel at times.
