Getting Camera Cleaned
-
PD_BARBSParticipant
Does anyone know where I can get my camera cleaned, preferrably somewhere around Derry.
I only have it a few months, but already my viewfinder is minging and there seems to be a blob on the sensor.
Any advise would be appreciated.
I forgot to say it is a Canon 400d
sean1098MemberIf you dont feel confident with doing it yourself, take a run into jessops in foyleside as they do it. But it will cost you £50 and they send it away, I think it takes 2 weeks.
Sean.
nfl-fanParticipantCleaning the sensor is very easy. Swabs and fluid is all you need.
Lock up the mirror on your camera by going into Manual Cleaning mode.
3 drops of fluid on the top of the swab
Run the swab gently across the sensor left to right. Turn the swab and again, run it over the sensor from right to left. Done.
Now… the viewfinder… that’s where the DIY stops. Do Pro Outlets clean the interior of the viewfinder???
PD_BARBSParticipantThanks for the replies
I am worried about the DIY route as this is how I made a mess of the viewfinder, tried a blower, folowed by a cotton bud, I even tried a sensor pen. What I have now is a smeered mess rather than the two bits of dust I started with.
So I really don’t want to repeat this for the sensor.
But the strange thing about the ‘sensor blob’ is that it does not come out on all images, is this common or am I mistaken in even thinking its the sensor, could it be the mirror or something else ?

shutterbugParticipantIf it is not showing on all prints, maybe it is your lens at fault? Try cleaning both
ends of the lens, just breath on it and use a soft lint free cloth.Madra RuaParticipantSensor dust will only really show at small apertures like f20 and above.
If you shoot at f8 you might never notice it.PD_BARBSParticipantMadra Rua wrote:

I will need to look into this, it is definately not the lens as it can be seen on some shots using different lenses.
Its easily cloned out, but just a bloody pain.
