Glendalough, again!
-
RodcunhaParticipant
Hi there, I know it has been long… but had a few issues over the last couple of weeks, had to travel to Portugal, then I had a move up to Dundalk, a new hotel and all the things that come with it (setting up procedures, working for endless hours etc etc).
This shot was taken a few weeks back, before I went to portugal on a very foggy morning in glendalough, I took off to wicklow at 5:30 am, arrived at 6:45 roughly, though the fog was so intense over the lake that made it completely impossible to get any half decent shot. I chose my composition and waited, waited and waited more, this shot was taken already past 9 AM with the sun already high. It took only a few seconds (surely no more than 30s) for the fog to vanish completely, leaving behind a small cloud at the very end of the lake, I just loved this and thought it would give the image a bit of a surreal feel.
As always I would love to have your opinions on this, good or bad, just rip it apart! Thanks very much and sorry for the absence,
Rod
randomwayMemberI think, you’ve done a good job. The colours and lights are simply fantastic. Looking at the sky and the clouds at the end of the lake I instantly wanted to see this in a much larger size…. the web is just not a good place for these shots. The composition is conventional, not boring, still, I think, it could be improved by some experimenting. I was trying to get a good shot with the dense vegetation and small river on the right side, but my results were not even close to this. Also, a vertical frame could be an alternative to this.
The best part I think is the well lit rocky mountains over the fog in the center…. nice photo all in all.
MartinParticipantLovely shot. Nice colours and exposure. I normally tune out for Glendo pics as the place has been done to death but i like this.
The sky looks a bit funny though, looks as if it has been burnt in as the clouds look lighter around the edges where they meet the mountains and trees but maybe its my monitor or the sun was to high
Well done, would make a really nice print
MRodcunhaParticipantThanks very much for your reply, I did a lot of testing and have a good few from other places, landscape format, portrait format, etc, but the one I processed first was this one, and since I still have my desktop packed I have no access at the moment to the other shots.
I agree with you that this could probably be improved, but that is the reason why we are here isn’t it?Cheers again,
Rod
RodcunhaParticipantHi Martin,
Thanks for your feedback too, You are right, though none of the images had been burned, It might have been the polarizer or the ND grad I used there, the grad if i remember correctly was not totally vertical so that might be it!
Might have been the light as well as the sun was definitely very high already!
I will have to investigate as I just don’t remember anymore!Cheers,
Rod
randomwayMemberThe polarizer usually does this to the cirrus type of clouds that you have there. I like ’em. I’m sure you have a couple more images in your stash somewhere… it’s like the endless source of amazing Chile-shots.
RobMemberI like this too Rodrigo. As for being ‘done to death’, there’s always another
aspect, another way to view a scene. As already mentioned, the composition
may be conventional, but it’s beautifully executed. Wonderful colours, stunning
reflections, and the sharpness is almost HDR-like. Nice work…Rob.
Mr.HParticipantGood work Rod… Certainly works for me. Love the light on the trees on the left. Hauke posted totally different shot from a very similar position a few weeks ago.
For some reason this reminds me of an US national park rather than glendalough.. must be the light?
Gary
RodcunhaParticipantThanks for your thoughts Rob and Gary, I really appreciate your feedback!
Cheers,
Rod
lousyParticipantSeaviewParticipantVery nice landscape, Great composition, Lighting is wonderful as is the range of colours . Just wondering what lens you used for this shot and all other information is welcome if you care to share.
Dave.
PeteTheBlokeMemberWelcome back Rod. I hope things are calming down.
This shot’s a beauty. I think the composition is excellent
and the colours are cracking.I quite like the dropshadow framing too – though I may be in a minority here.
