Glendalough IR

Inspired by some of Martin’s work I picked up an IR filter and I’ve been playing around with it since. Here are two I captured a few months ago and finally found some time to process. Critique is very welcome!

Two nice IR shots. 1 being my favorite of the two

The second is nice and the toning works well. Think the bridge is a bit too dominant, nice one though

First i think is very nice, have the feeling that it needs to be seen bigger to bee seen properly, looks nicely balanced

Both very nice shots, No. 2 would be my favorite.
I’d like to give it a go but ,Am I right in saying that a 400d won’t do IR??

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

I did think that the second one is a little unbalanced and now that you mention it the bridge is probably too dominant. If I had moved a little to the right I’m sure I could have gotten a better composition.

These were taken with the 400D. You will need an R72 infrared filter which only allows infra red light through. Exposure times can be long so you will probably need to use a tripod also. Some Canon lenses will show a hotspot when used to take infrared photographs but you can check the compatibility of your lenses on this page.

Thanks for that, I thought wrong. I don’t know where I picked that up from.

No problem. :D If you really like infrared photography you can convert the 400D to an infrared only camera – which means that you can take infrared handheld at normal shutter speeds so there is no need for a tripod. Once you convert the camera it will no longer be able to take non-infrared photographs though! All the info is here.
