Golden Hour, My A***
-
andy mcinroyParticipant
Out last night in the pissing Donegal rain.
Trudged for 3 miles up some godforsaken pebble beach in darkest Inishowen.
Had a marvellous time !!!
Andy
S-ManMemberI was up there a while ago its great fun but it was pissing rain too .
Great Capture (despite the weather) :DNot Pete the blokeParticipantAndy, what do you do to keep the lens dry in pissing rain? On my photography course in the Peak District we visited the Derwent Valley Reservoir (of DamBusters fame) and I couldnt keep the rain drops off my lens. Normally I wouldn’t even have been out, but we tried to use trees for some shelter. Others (more wise than me) used umbrellas over the camera and lens. Is that something you would do? It struck me that one of those big fishermen umbrellas might be the answer…?

earthairfireParticipantAndy, Andy, Andy,
You should know by now that you don’t NEED the golden hour….
Just get a copy of Photoshop.. Drop in a new sky. Push the colour temperature. Boost the contrast & saturation. Bingo. It’s what ALL the clever cats do nowadays ;)
PS – for anyone that didn’t detect the liberal smear of sarcasm… I’m JOKING…
PPS – nice timing for the wave – looks great!

On a serious note..
I use a plastic bag and a rubber band, in conjunction with a lens hood! Cheap and nasty, but works well! Also, I keep a chamoix handy for times when hands / equipment gets a little damp.

andy mcinroyParticipantIt’s not easy brandyman,
Especially when filters are being used.
I carry a bunch of absorbant kitchen roll and just keep wiping. I tend to keep the filters off the camera until the last moment after I have worked out the viewpoint and then rush the setup (tripod, filters etc). Filters go on then one final wipe and hope for the best. The odd spot can be fixed in post process.

RobMemberVery nice Andy. Well timed with that wave rolling in.
A nice sky too, despite – or thanks to? – the weather.
I feel though you might have been able to draw a little
more colour out of that pebbled beach without losing the
overall effectiveness of the image.Rob.
andy mcinroyParticipantandy mcinroyParticipantSANCHOMemberyou may not have had a marvelous time but that is a marvelous image sir. the flow and the angles are brilliant.
eshortieParticipantThat first image is great, really good timing to get the wave like that! :)
My fave is the second image though, all the swirls of water are brilliant.
Good stuff.
:D EvanPeteTheBlokeMemberI like the second one a lot Andy. Something out of the ordinary. Well done for getting out in the rain too.
GfoxParticipantLove the first shot Andy– Big fan of your work.. Its an inspiration for people like me to learn from..
andy mcinroyParticipantThank you guys,
Pete, I think this might be the new Urris. A gem of a place. You should see the sheer variety of the rock on offer here !!
Also, if kinnego is my summer location then I think this is going to be my winter one. It’s SW facing, perfect backdrop and rocks a plenty. Perfect.
Andy
andy mcinroyParticipantHere’s my last of the evening
Also, the first image will be the basis for my August dispatches article.
“In Search of Bad Weather”You can see the draft here. Comments and suggestions much appreciated.
