I was down in Dublin for the weekend and was able to get up for a sunrise on Sunday morning and headed to Donabate – and was back in bed for 9:15am.
As the sun was so strong I had to position myself so as to block the sunlight bouncing off the filters and causing glare.
Canon 60D
Sigma 10-20
3stop Grad ND and a 1stop Grad ND.
Tripod and camera on self-timer
1sec f18
RAW was processed to add some clarity and then opened and processed in PSE10 and I adjusted Levels, Saturation and Sharpened.
Nice image Brian. I like the composition and the colours / tones. Also like the detail in the grass. the left of the image is a just a little soft for me. I find the north Dublin coast a little bit featureless and its not always easy to capture interesting and drmatic shots of same but I think you have done a good job here with this one. What filters (brand) did you use?
Thanks for the feedback Rob. I do agree with most of what you’ve said there, soft on the left (there’s a little bit of flare or smudge on the filter) so well spotted, nothing slips past you eh!! And the north Dub coast can be a bit bland.
I used Cokin Filters for this shot, some people moan about the Cokins adding a magenta tint (which I’ve actually toned down in this shot in PS), but I think in this case the colour cast was a bonus.
