That’s an interesting shot you got there John, do you have a set? Could make a nice little documentary… and certainly something quite different.

I have a few all right John, though haven’t done any serious processing on them just yet, as I was trying to wade through the mound of stuff in the queue. This was the pick of the bunch, but I’ll have a look at the rest and see what’s there. We got a wee bit guilty standing there taking photos of him at work, even though he said it was fine, as we didn’t want to dissuade potential customers on a nice Saturday afternoon

I know what you mean John… I’d find it quite odd to have people standing there photographing me at work too! Nice though to be able experience something different like this.

lousy, wonka and wexkel11, all member of Wexford Camera Club have some sort of Goldsmith or Jewellry Maker in the club and it often crossed my mind how interesting it might be to see what he does.

That being said, I’d imagine it could be a long and labourious process that might require you only to take a snap every hour perhaps!

It’s surprisingly quick actually. He was just starting from a straight solid bar when we arrived, and from the timestamps on the series I took, he took about 30 minutes to transform it into the ring as it it here, and that included maybe 10 minutes dealing with a customer. For a fairly standard ring, which this was going to be (standard as in nothing too complicated, but very nice all the same), he reckoned there’d be about 6 hours work. Something more complex might take about 3 days.

Very nice and interesting guy. I wish we’d found him 3 years ago when we were doing our wedding rings, as we looked high and low for a jeweller to make what we wanted. In the end we did find somebody in Kilkenny who actually did a wonderful job, though we’d been on the point of throwing in the towel and just going to a run of the mill jewellers.
