Damien I also have Tony Worobiec from Chapters. Whereas it’s good value at that price, it is not nearly as comprehensive as Tim’s which leaves no stone unturned in his experiments and variations on the use of toners. I gather from another web site that he has managed to get the book reprinted and it is for sale again. If that’s an area you want to get involved in I would highly recommend it.

Thanks Vincent, toning is something that interests me a lot and should I get a real taste for it, will consider adding TIm Rudmans book. For now, I am printing on resin coated paper, and must explore if toning will have the same benefits (archival and aesthetic) on resin as on fibre.
I have another of Worobiec’s book, Beyond Monochrome, which he co-wrote, and find him a very readable writer.

Has anyone mentioned the master’s books Ansel Adams, three books The Camera, The Negative and The Print, I have read the last two, quite detailed learned a lot especially from the The Print, worth checking out.
We should all have our rights as photographers revoked for not mentioning the holy trinity earlier, lol. I have The Negative, and while I find Ansel tough going sometimes, Ansel’s writings are no doubt firmly in the category of tomes for all time. Thanks for mentioning it though, I almost overlooked them! :)
damien.murphyParticipantJust rediscovering Les McLean’s book at the moment, between breaks in printing. Unfortunately I had left it in my darkroom which I only get down to every third week, so just getting a chance to delve into it again these last few days.
I’ve also had a chance to pick up John Blakemore’s Black and White Workshop, as suggested by Martin, and think both it and Les’ book will give me plenty of food for thought between printing sessions in the darkroom! :)
