Actually, I was in gunn’s last week for the first time!!
I’ve gone to Camera exchange a few times (bought my first slr there) but I find that it’s a bit of a trek to get in there..living in the suburbs and all.

You may also consider Hetty at http://www.hettysdarkroom.com/gallery.html She may have a collection service going. She does good quality work.

Just as a note.. I used Gunns for developing and scanning my first film ever (Ilford HP5+ 400 ISO) and the results were NOISEY!!! From talking to people in the know, a lot of this noise can be attributed to them not taking a lot of time during the development process. Now don’t get me wrong, I was happy with the grain in the end, but the quanitiy of it was still very surprising.

Hetty’s Darkroom is only 2 minutes down the raod from me!

Hmmm I like a bit of noise.. sometimes..

I have the same question now… I would rather not go to the city centre if possible, and I would prefer South Dublin. I hate the traffic and parking system in the inner city. Could anyone recommend a lab in West or South Dublin? Or should I get the chemicals and accessories and do it myself?

I checked Hetty’s website and the address is Cork… so that’s not an option for me.

Dev the film yourself, its fairly simple, hardest part at the start is winding the film onto the spool but after a few roles you will do it without having to think. Go into Gunns and get the chemicals and the tank etc. Cost me about 80 euro to get everything i needed and get setup. The people on here will help and you can give me a ring if you need too… Its great fun and deving the film yourself is part of the process

I’m not at the printing stage myself yet (scanning at the mo, getting a dark room later in the year) but would recommend you start deving the film at the start anyhow even if your going to get someone else to do the prints

I have seen a couple of videos on youtube showing how to do it, and it doesn’t seem to be the most difficult thing I’ve ever tried. I will go out tomorrow morning in the mountains to get rid of two more rolls and I will give the diy development a go…

I do my own film most of the time but when things pile up or i’m in a rush I will post my films down to Hetty for a dev and contact sheet, she does a very impressive job.

I would highly recommend to anyone to develop their own films but in the early days and with a new camera I would be inclined not to try learn too many things at once.

    Just my 2 cents….

Film photography is an experiment for me at the moment… digital is always there when I don’t trust myself…

Yep, DIY is the only way to go. It’s easy after the first time and essential for consistant results.
