Grafton Street Faces

Mick451Participant
Thanks for all the positive comments.
I’m really not comfortable taking street shots.
Not out of any qualms about taking people’s photos, just feel very self conscious.
Think it went okay today, we’ll see.
Only problem I’ve encountered ever was today when two cops asked to see what I was taking snaps of.
Just gave one of them the camera and he knew where all the buttons were right off and scrolled through a few.
‘Just curious’ he said, and that was it.Mick451ParticipantRobMemberCheeses Mick, slow down…
Quality stuff. I’ve never tried that ‘shooting from the hip’, though I am
tempted now. An impressive collection of street photographs, wonderfully
random. Look like you may have another fight on your hands with the guy
on the left in number 9; that sidelong glance right into the centre of your lens…Rob.
mgstParticipantPeteTheBlokeMemberGreat work Mick. Taking shots as good as this from the hip is amazing.
When I think of all that nonsense with ND grads and tripods and stuff! It’s
enough to make a landscape photographer cry.I wouldn’t want to pick a favourite. They all look like classics to me.
sean1098MemberHi mick,i love the last and second last pic’s here.Dont ask me why, cause i dont know, they just appeal to me.I’m not really into street photography etc,but i like these.
Sean.
Mick451ParticipantThanks, peops.
Rob, I don’t even know what I shot most of the time.
You kind of have an idea but when you start to process them you see things in the frame you didn’t notice when pressing the button.
I didn’t notice yer man’s look, so I was blissfully ingnorant of his stare ;)Pete, I tend to scan crowds and look for interesting faces then make my way towards them.
That’s all I’m interested in, no stopping to compose or focus (I leave it on auto) so there’s an awful lot of luck involved.
It’s very different from landscapes, and I only half enjoy it really…but it’s good fun seeing what you shot at the day’s end.Mick, managed to get into town about 3.30pm, walked around and shot till 6.30pm.
Started off at 800ISO and was up to 3200ISO within an hour…all at f2.8 on 24mm.
Shot a coupla hundred, so just playing the percentages I’d have to have a few decent ones.Mick451ParticipantVAubreyMemberExcellent shots! They are very alive and characters are really interesting. I guess all people around may be very interesting for photographers but only Photographer can find “the moment” for capture.
Very well done!
/take off my hatIforParticipantA beautiful set of shots, excellent, people caught unaware lovely.
Took a photo of someone in Grafton St years ago, and this chap came running up to me thinking I was the tax man!
