Grand Canal Dock and Theatre

Was hanging around Dublin a couple of weeks ago while the wife and child where at The Westlife concert… and decided to have a go at shooting in around the Grand Canal Theatre area. Brilliant potential around there for architecture stuff. Pity the security followed me everywhere. An evening shoot in there would be great. Overall I’m very happy with the results… All shot with 5d2, 24 TS and Lee Grads….
Other over here if interested…..

DougLParticipantSome great shots here Richie! It’s a shame the sky didn’t play ball that day, but even so, number 2 and 3 really work for me. It certainly beats being put through the torture of a Westlife concert!

richiehatchMemberThanks Doug… The sky came out to play later on that evening but of course I had moved position…! In saying that somehow I kinda like the grey skys in these. I think it works with the grey colours of the building. :?
Thanks again

EnzymeParticipantHi Richie
I really like the graphic composition with the 2nd Image.
With Image 2 I would crop the corner of the theatre. It’s a bit distracting. I see you have a 24mm TS lens. If I was taking the shot I would have taken a 2nd shot with your shift a bit to the left so you would get the whole of the angled edge to the theatre and including the whole “Grand Canal Theatre” sign. You could seamlessly stitched the 2 together as you have a tilt and shift lens. It would give a nice graphic edge to the image. At the moment there just isn’t enough of the theatre in my opinion. It was a pity about the sky in the last shot as it’s a nice composition. I would just crop out the edge of the pole just peeking into the frame on the left.

I assume you mean image 3 with the advice about the shifting etc. You are spot on…! To be honest I was concentrating on the Mateus hotel building and didn’t really even notice the theater in my shot…! haha. The security where really on my case and I didn’t get a second chance to do a shift’n’stitch jobbie…! Its a technique I have used often. Very handy for getting out of tight spots.
Thanks again
Richie
MMXParticipantI would crop the 1st and 4th one to 2:1 format, the sky looks too boring (or wait for better weather).
