Grand Tetons, Wyoming – Infra red

I took this a few years back when I did my cross-US motorbike trip. It was a bit of a challenge keeping the IR film cool in the tank-bag :D
The shot was taken in Grand Teton National Park just after 8:00 am. It was definitely the highlight of the trip for me. There was no-one around and I recognized those mountains were part of the background for the western “Shane”. Having grown up in a house of western fanatics in Co. Mayo, how could I not go there?
Film was Kodak high speed infra red with a medium red filter.
beasleyParticipantNice shot, Iv always had a soft spot for IR. It must have been a hell of a trip!
Any more pics from it?
What kind of bike were you on?I never like the idea of bikes (im more a vw bus kinda man) but after reading zen and the art of motor cycle maintenance Iv been a little more taken with the idea.
PucaMemberThanks Beasly – it was the trip of a lifetime for me. I did 6,500 miles in 19 days and met lots of nice people and a few weirdos as well – just to make things interesting. The bike was/is a Ducati ST2 that I brought home with me, but according to the powers that be here in Ireland, I need to go back on a 125cc or similar so I can “learn” how to ride a bike. I assumed that I’d have to do a test, but they really pulled the rug out from under me. Even the RSA admitted that cases like mine had “fallen through the cracks” but licensing changes are now made at the EU level. Ok – end of rant and back to photos. I still have to finish ome of the images, but here’s a small sample.
US Cavalry cemetery at the site of the battle of Little Big Horn:
And here’s one of the obelisk at the site:
Joey CParticipantLove the first 2 in particular, kinda distracted with the watermark though. As for the bike issue, thats a shame, but i think you can get it restricted until you have ur full licence for a year (thats the way it used to be – but can’t be sure any longer…its been a while since i was in similar situ.)
look forward to seeing more.
joebeasleyParticipantOh wow, the US Cavalry cemetery one looks kinda unsettling in the IR.
Thats an absolute joke about the bike but sums up out country pretty nicely really.
Forgive my ignorance on the situtation but could you get signed off somewhere friendly that you had done your time on the bike and just get back on your own?
(I may have done something along these lines when I was a whole lot sillier to get a bus on the road…..)davedunneParticipantPucaMemberThanks for the comments, Joe, Dave and Beasley. Joe – you’re right about the watermark. I’ll make a smaller one next week.
Beasley, if you have any insights into navigating the licensing shenanigans, please PM me!! They’re not taking my years of experience into account at all, so I’m back on a provisional, but have no suitable bike and am leery about emasculating my pride and joy. So … even after I pass the smaller capacity test, I’m still hobbled to the small bike for the further 2 years. BTW, my wife is a HUGE VW van fan. I think it harks back to her Grateful Dead days :)
