Not too sure what to make of this one Pete. Compositionally, it’s a bit of
a muddle to me and nothing seems to sit well in the frame. What lets it down
mostly though has to be the light. As you can clearly see there isn’t a single
shadow anywhere, which gives the image no depth or definition to speak of.
The four stones together have an interesting line and might be better shot
without the inclusion of the solitary one, and on a day with some light and
shadow…
Thanks for the feedback Rob (funnily enough the guy in the photo is called Rob too….). I agree with you regarding the compostion. I didn’t have much choice as I was already leaning dangerously over the top of the tower! I just thought I’d see what feedback it would get.
As for the shadows, I was at the mercy of the weather again. Nothing but big grey clouds looming overhead all day.
Your dead right about no depth. After looking at the image again it looks like the subject was literally cut and pasted into the photo!?
Actually I think this shot has potential. I think a crop from the top, bottom and the RHS bringing everything tighter into the frame would work. This the composition is a mess at present due to the fact there is so much empty space. Yea a bit of shadow would be nice, get burning in photoshop under those headstones and that should create some depth.
