Nice shot. Very sharp for such a long length. The catchlight in the eye is so important here. Must be difficult getting good sharp results with the 800 and 1.4x. Was this a combination of high shutterspeed and IS….??? With a lens that length ye probably couldve saved the cost on the flight ticket and shot that from Ireland

    At that scale that’s impressive.

The buddy who loaned it to me also has a real heavy tripod and a whimberly gimble head. Once the lens and camera were balance right on the head moving it around was using really smooth and easy with no effort. At first I didn’t balance it right and it actually started to hurt my shoulder after holding the camera/leans in place for a while. Getting results with manual focus was very hard. I tried using Live View on the 40D but that was hard with a moving subject so I reverted to using the view finder.

1120mm – I’d want to see it’s tonsils if I had a lens like that.
