Took myself out to the local Greyhound Stadium to try out my 85mm 1.8 lense.
Not the most ideal lense for shooting greyhounds in this environment but any tips
or suggestions will be welcome. I was shooting at 1600 ISO with a speed of 1/500
& also in RAW. These images have been cropped & flash is not allowed at the track.

    Well done John17.
I was tempted to try this myself recently, but I didn’t get a reply to my e-mail to establish what restrictions were in place. It would be very difficult to get high shutter speeds to freeze the action without using a very fast lens as the lighting is not ideal. Catching the action at the bends sometimes works, but also facing the dogs head-on down the straight can get good results. Also just as the dogs leave the traps can get some nice results.

Black dogs didnt help any  They dont look sharp but as miki said conditions
must have been tough. I dont know the answer, would the lighting be pretty uniform
in the stadium or would there be pockets of light which would be better? Even though
you had a fast enough shutter speed I would still be tempted to use a tripod.

    Cheers guys!
I positioned my self between two lights with the camera mounted
on a tripod with a cable release attached. I also had the camera set on AI Servo.
I also had it set to continuous shooting mode. Maybe i should have left it at AI Focus?
They run a hell of a lot faster than I expected them to.
It was like a herd of galloping horses running towards me!
We’ll try again with hopefully better results!
