As it’s a quiet time of year workwise, I thought I pop up some of my better grid girl shots from the year…something I don’t usually do on this forum. Anyway, enjoy!

Canada 2006 – Takuma Sato’s grid girl…with an amazing pout.

Hungary 2005 – The classic wrist band shot…I had to do it once!

Turkey 2006 – Real Turkish delight. The best grid girl practice session of the year. You could not believe the light.

    Turkey 2006 – as above!

Le Mans 24Hrs 2006 – Like strawberries & cream, Le Mans and the Hawaiian Tropic girls go hand in hand!

Great Pics Mark. Am used to looking at that watermark as I’m a big F1 fan and it is on virtually all F1 shots that I’ve seen.

I am so envious of you getting right down there on the grid. Closest I’ve ever got is the final turn in Barcelona..up on the hill overlooking the Pit entrance..

Didn’t even have a decent camera with me then…no optical zoom or anything.

Do you have any good Schuey pics by any chance? :D

Guys, critique the photographs please, not the watermark.

    thanks

Now now. Lets not get too serious here FGS. Critiquing the “image” surely includes the watermark??

Number three looks like a gorgeous photo to me, though it is difficult to see with that huge watermark. I wouldn’t be too
gone on any of the others though, seen a million like them in F1 magazines and on F1 websites. Sorry, just my tuppence worth…

Thanks for the (proper) comments. It is extremely difficult to shoot F1 and find something different especially when there’s 80 of us at every race, 18 times every year. The days of finding yourself alone at a corner are gone. Just like wildlife photography, it’s all a bit similar. Only 1 or 2 guys shoot nice, arty different stuff…and the reason is simply money – they can afford to. Stocky shots tend to sell easier. In the same way sponsors don’t want arty blurry car shots, they want shots that show their logos, end of story.
It’s different when you’re paid to do a job and have to deliver on a certain brief…that’s what differentiates between an amateur and pro…pros are paid to deliver time and again, and to a specific brief most times.

Expresbro – I have lots of Schuey…my best probably being when he crossed the line in Belgium in ’04 to win his last world championship…

Excellent Mark, love every single one of them. (especially the third). I like them because they look like something you’d see in an F1 magazine .. :D

Fantastic Mark. I must say the compostition and lighting is just magical. Technically they are exposed correctly and sharp. Nice saturation too. Choice of subject is very good too, whenever I try this kinda thing on Grafton St. I get strange looks, dunno why??

I’m sorry… but all I see too, are watermarks and these ARE part of the image. It’s just unfortunate in these shots that it’s the most dominant part of the image. I also think it’s unfair to refer to some comments as “proper” suggesting that everyone’s comments aren’t equally as valid. They all look like great shots, sharpness, colour etc… but they’re ruined in my opinion.

    Hi Mark,
Leaving aside the watermarks (you’ll be glad to hear), this looks like a great representation of the F1 lifestyle and the girls look amazing. Just one thing I can’t figure out though…. why would anyone in their right mind want to leave this behind and move back to Ireland? :? :) :? :)

I haven’t left anything behind…I’m just living in Ireland now. F1 beckons in March, and weddings are something for the winter or occasional weekend I have off.
