Guys, need advice!

archibaltsParticipant
Finally started time, when people wants photo sessions and few wedding are coming up. Very quickly I must obtain equipment, for start I decided to get Nikon D300s,
Sigma EX 70-200mm f/2,8 DG APO HSM II Macro and
Tamron XR 17-50mm f/2.8 DI II VC LD.
I’m already owning D3000(which I found out good only like a backup/second body), SB600, yn465, 18-55mm, 55-200mm, 35mm f1.8.The biggest problem – where to buy, this is big investment for me.
I checked http://www.digitalwonderworld.de” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;, and the price together is nearly 2500 euro. I never bought from them anything and in web I can’t find too many good reviews about them.
What I want from yous – can you suggest some other place for about the same money, but place where I won’t have problems with warranty, shiping etc?lukemParticipantjust had a quick look at this site. i have just dealt with a shop in the uk and a few of my friends have too and seem to be a little bit keener on some stuff. have a look… paul is the man to deal wit…http://stores.hdewcameras.com/StoreFront.bok” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
brendancullenParticipantHDEW are another ‘grey importer’ – in that they have no premises.
They take your money today – import it from the far east – then ship it to you.
This could take up to 10 working days.
serious issues arise when something goes ‘wrong’ with the equipment inside the warranty period. It must go back to the far east – as Nikon, Canon europe won’t touch it.

archibaltsParticipantSo looks like I can’t make any savings on this, just to be sure about warranty etc must walk to Bermingham camera store or Conns cameras, maybe they can make some offers.
If I understand correctly – if you are officialy registrated photographer, you can get back VAT?! Or you are just not paying it?!brendancullenParticipantWhatever trade or service you are in – you must be registered for VAT – in order to get a refund.
VAT registration is only compulsary when you turn over a large amount – €37,500 in the case of persons supplying services,
You must then always charge VAT on your services.
Its not discounted at the purchase – rather refunded bi-monthly when you submit your figures.
You’d probably have to be registed as a sole -trader also – and make annual revenue returns.
Revenue FAQ’s here

check this link for the best deals around (in the UK)

You can get a VAT refund on EU purchases if you have a VAT number.

Thanks, now I see, that I even don’t want to know about that :D To get 37k with photography… Would be nice :)
stcstcMemberactually if it comes from another eu country
they dont charge you vat, if you are vat registered. as its an eu export
where this works rather well is buying from belfast. as its an eu export when its shipped here to dublin
MMXParticipantAs it´s a big investment, buy from a trustworthy shop such as B&H or Adorama, the risk is not worth the few €.
MarkKeymasterTo be honest, I’d suggest talking to local camera shops, tell them what you’re up to and see whats the best price
they can give you. You’d be surprised. I bought by first Nikon DSLR locally here in Cork for only €10 more than online in the UK.
Afterward, I had a self-inflicted (well a friend did it actually :) ) major issue with it. The store parcelled it up, sent it back to Nikon for me, asked Nikon to fix it even though the damage wouldn’t have been covered under the warranty and all for no cost to me.By the way, buying from the US will mean 1) you’ll probably need to send it back to them for any repairs due to it being a US warranty unless
of course you also purchase a worldwide warranty, 2) you will have to pay duty on the purchase which will probably remove any possible savings.tsergairlMember“you will have to pay duty on the purchase which will probably remove any possible savings.”
+VAT :-) , if You prove (to duty office) , that you need this just for your hobby, you will not pay the duty :-), but You still have to pay VAT :-(
and another question: what if the new lens will have back/front focus ???, sand them back ???

Canon 60D Price (body only)
• $ 1,099
• € 1,149http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canoneos60d/page2.asp” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
tsergairlMember“Canon 60D Price (body only)

Chris
MarkKeymasterSorry guys, work it out:
$1,099 + $50.85 shipping = $1149.85
Using todays exchange rate works out as €861 + €39.84 shipping = €900.84
Add 21% VAT onto the original price plus shipping cost (this is unavoidable) = €1090.01Of course, this excludes the fee which the person (in this case UPS) collecting the VAT will add on, that amounts to €13.50.
Total cost is: €1103.51
Difference between the US and Irish price is €45.49, something which you might be able to get as a discount from an Irish
camera shop !Of course you’ll also be covered with a warranty…
MMXParticipantAnd what about a €2939 discount? :D
http://www.cameracentre.ie/lenses/canon/1104/canon-ef-800-f-5.6l-is-usm” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM – €12349.99
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/542293-REG/Canon_2746B002AA_EF_800mm_f_5_6L_IS.html” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM – $10900.00 = €8385.00
Price difference between USA and IRL: €3965
Return flight from Dublin (DUB)To New York (JFK) with Aer Lingus: €1026
PS: even if I booked a business class flight it would still be cheaper than buying it here.
archibaltsParticipantSo, I ended up with Conns Cameras.
The difference was 600 euro betwen Coons and digitalwonderland.de. They reduced difference to 300.
I hope Conns Camera customer service is like people are telling, that was the only reason I bought everything there.I’m junt not getting how Tamron 17-50 f2.8 with all same specs can cost in digitalwonderland.de 409 euro, in conns 650, sigma 70-200 f2.8 675 in web, in Conns 899euro. D300s cost 150 euro more. Okey, shipping 22 euro, but still…
