Hahnenmuhle Papers – Bright White or Satin

    Morning All,

Having heard great stuff about them, I was going to get myself some Hanemuhle paper for BW prints off my Epson R2400 ,

I kinda like the PhotoRag Bright White, but I am more familiar with the Pearl type of paper …

any recommendations would be appreciated, as well as any local supplier … would be looking for a3+ sheets …

If you like bright white version on Photo Rag but are unsure about the matte surface then you may want to consider a semi-gloss alternative Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta – it also has bright whites as optical brightening agents are added to the paper.

If you prefer more natural looking whites (i.e. paper without OBAs which also means it more suitable for archival prints) then you should take a look at Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta which is a 100% cotton base, semi-gloss baryta finish and slightly warmer whites. This one is a bit hit with my customers.

Thanks for that Tony …do you sell the Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta in A3+? can you give me a quote for a pack?

Again, thanks for the advice … it’s a bit too expensive to be taking un-informed chances with …

have a look at photorag pearl, its not white white, but looks stunning for B&W.

one of the site sponsors, sheldon photographic is one of the hanemuhle dealers.

the other thing to do is get one of the sample packs from sheldon to help decide

the benefit of the photorag pearl is that it can be used with photo black ink which means no ink swaps etc, which is worth a lot.

    Hi Phil,

I don’t sell any packs of paper myself so unfortunately can’t help you there. As Steve mentioned, Sheldon should be able to help you out in Dublin.
The Hahnemuhle sample pack is a good start if you want to experiment with the different finishes but some of the more interesting ones are not included to you may need to order a test print from someone. In the end, your choices in paper will be very personal ones (and your taste may even change over time ;) It’s a slippery slope.
